What's The Matter
Clint Lowery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wish there was something more to come
To bring my heart around
Don't mean to be insensitive or dumb
But do we really care anymore?
You think it's strange, but that's alright
How's it feel to be so predictable?
I'm all about pretty things
But what about the soul we lost

Oh you better believe
There's something coming on right now
It kills me now to see

I wanna hear the angels cry
I'm standing on a mountain breathing fire
What's the matter with you?
Oh my God, we're worthy, we're worthy now

The passive aggressive words we love
To chase our hearts around
I don't have to be glorified or warped
To feel alive anymore
People are strange, but that's just fine
I've been tugging at the final curtain call
I'm all about anarchy
But doesn't sound like fun anymore, anymore

Oh you better believe
There's something coming on right now
It kills me now to see

I wanna hear the angels cry
I'm standing on a mountain breathing fire
What's the matter with you?
Oh my God, we're worthy, we're worthy now

You wanna see the bullets fly
I wanna take the leap inside your mind
What's the matter with you?
Oh my God, we're worthy, we're worthy now

What's the matter? Did you lose or win?
Does it matter to you in the end?
We all lose something dear

Oh you better believe
There's something coming on right now
It kills me now to see

I wanna hear the angels cry
I'm standing on a mountain breathing fire
What's the matter with you?
Oh my God, we're worthy, we're worthy now

You wanna see the bullets fly
I wanna take the leap inside your mind
What's the matter with you?
Oh my God, we're worthy, we're worthy now

We're worthy now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Clint Lowery's song "What's the Matter" explore themes of inner turmoil, uncertainty, and existential questioning. The opening lines express a desire for something to bring the singer's heart back to a place of hope and fulfillment, but they also suggest a sense of resignation and complacency, as if the singer has lost faith in the possibility of true emotional connection. The refrain of "what's the matter with you?" is both a challenge and a plea, asking the listener to examine their own values and motives, while also acknowledging the complexity and messiness of human relationships.

Throughout the song, there is a tension between the desire for transcendence and the reality of our flawed, imperfect world. The singer longs to "hear the angels cry" and "stand on a mountain breathing fire", but they also recognize that people are "strange" and that anarchy doesn't sound like "fun" anymore. This suggests a disillusionment with traditional forms of rebellion and a search for something more meaningful and authentic.

Ultimately, the theme of worthiness emerges as a central motif. The singer asserts that "we're worthy now", but the question of what makes someone worthy, and in whose eyes, remains unresolved. The closing lines acknowledge the inevitability of loss and the fragility of human existence, leaving the listener with a sense of both melancholy and hope for the future.

not sure whats with the complaining... ive honestly been hooked on this album lately. clint basically used this project as an apparatus to get out some music, most of this stuff you can tell is just soulful clint writing and singing to his content. like most successful musicians i'm noticing their main thing is to write songs filled mainly with melody. something i personally love! which is what he did successfully on this abum, you really can't ask for more than that.

If i had to guess this was the song that was originally a 7dust jam. Really diggin a few jams I just kinda hoped to see clint go all out and make a guitar players wet dream album. But i understand cause hes so good at all types of music so wanted to get a little of everything.
