The SSD at the Battle of Endor was only destroyer by the Rebel Y-wing because its bridge deflector shields were down, an officer aboard even says that - otherwise the Rebel fighter would have simply crashed straight into the hull and do no damage whatsoever.

The asari have never once been said to create that kind of armour, they have silaris armour, which is a stronger version of ablative armour made from diamonds and welded to the ship's hull directly.

The Reapers' main weapons are very close range, you saw the coalition fleet in ME3 fire on the Reapers long before they were ever in range of them. The beam weapon they use is not actually a direct energy weapon, but a continuous stream of molten magma/metal fired at a fraction of the speed of light - this does make it a kinetic weapon, and as I said before, their ranges are in the kiloton levels of firepower, that's thousands of tons of TNT.

If the SD stayed back and kept firing with its heavy turbolasers, I'm fairly certain it could hold out. Like you said, we'll never know. Maybe it could be overwhelmed. But if we're talking about an SSD, comparing the size of the largest Reaper - Harbinger - at 2.1 kilometres, vs any one of the Empire's Executor-class Super Star Destroyers at 19 kilometres, or 11 miles long. In the incredible cross-sections for Attack of the Clones, the Acclimator-class ship is said to have a shield heat dissipation of 70 trillion gigawatts, a star destroyer is going to have a much higher number, and since the Reapers' weapons can also be classed as heat weapons which burn through things, and a constant barrage of 300-400 kiloton would do nothing to a shield that powerful.

But I'll say again, we'll definitely never know, and I honestly do love Mass Effect. If I had the chance to live there - minus the Reapers, of course XD - I'd take it without hesitation. And like I said previous, I do believe ME would have a much greater chance against the Empire in ground warfare.

you may have a point there, but could 1 ship vs millions of super-smart killing machines with absolutely no conscious for any being at all, win? not to mention the armor the reapers may have, if the asari can create super condensed 'Liquefication' armor, then the reapers may as well have Vibranium+ armor (adding little Captain America pun there ;)

but yes you are right, not even a reaper can stand the firepower of a full barrage of fire from an imperial super-destroyer, but it wont be long before the reapers get in close and shrek the s*** out of an imperial destroyer.

If we are talking about the same ship from star wars, a small fighter that went kamikaze pretty much blew the ship to bits. Reapers are 10-20x bigger and have 100-1000x times more power then small fighters, and imagine if they went kamikaze!

Even thought it may not seem like it, factors of a winning battle are seldom obvious, but I'm pretty sure that millions of super powerful machines verses 1 Ultra powerful super-ship....is a pretty downhill battle.

Not trying to be annoying, you are actually making an extremely valid point, but both are not in real life, so we may not be able to ever tell, and I'm just voicing my opinion :)

The bast thing about it, is how like the tide bursing a dam, the tense music gives way to a mighty orchestral remaster of the title theme. Exactly the same mely dy aa when the words Mass Effect were firs seen in the first game, but now all grown up, worthy of being mentioned the best of the best.

This scene is one of the scenes I show people to explain basically what Mass Effect is, along with the last scene of ME2 (with Harbinger and the Reapers approaching the Milky Way ominously) and Kalros taking out the Reaper on Tuchanka. That spoiler-less combination of scenes makes people want to play the series, 9 times out of 10 :P

I can't say that ME 3 was my favorite out of the entire trilogy but i can agree with you about it being emotionally strongest. So many people say that ME 3 was not good but i think all ME games are extremely great and I even like the ending since no matter what you do and no matter what you choose it always has some downside and there is no true happy ending.

I like you xD 3 was my favourite too. Everyone "hates" it because they were disappointed with the ending, but literally moment leading up to that was so moving and epic and even though I was disappointed too, it is still by far my favourite of the trilogy. Upon hearing this in the game, I immeditaely recognised it as a more grandiose version of 'Spectre Induction' from ME1. Made both the track and scene infinitely cooler and was a great, subtle callback.

Covenant ships have incredibly dense shields, though. I'd imagine the sheer scale of the ship, its armor, and its shields would make it immune to attack (we're talking about 28 kilometer long ships, here)

And also another good tactic (Sparingly, though since there are few in the fleet) is to have one Turian dreadnaught flanked by two Alliance dreadnaughts per Sovereign. As for Destroyers, since they are smaller they can be dealt with in a smaller manner. One Alliance battlecruiser followed by six Turian frigates. Another tactic that's useful is box in a Quarian Liveship with Destroyers and Dreadnaughts and have the Liveship's crude (yet effective) guns shear through Oculus drones.

Two completely different stories with no relation to each other what so ever, and both are brilliant, I love Mass Effect and Halo, I'm very attached to both series and both have moved me in ways that I feel like I'm part of their universe, If you think something sucks compared to something else then that's your opinion and of course you're entitled to it, but you shouldn't post it as a comment to something.

That musical build up and then crescendo as the fleets drop out of warp makes the hair on my arms stand up 6 years later. Every blip of light is a ship and every person on every ship knows what is being asked of them and the almost unimaginable cost Earth and every other planet has paid to get them to that place.

Such a glorious moment when the Normandy comes through, and then cruisers and dreadnoughts... followed by more cruisers and dreadnoughts. As the cinematic plays on, you realize its an unrelenting, almost unending stream of large warships that Shepard (or alternatively you) has brought and that every fighting ship in the galaxy has been brought to earth to oppose the reapers. It was glorious.

Again, we never ever get a base number of Reapers. If that number is 100 million then the feeble 60/70+ thousand-strong fleet the galactic species mustered would have been overwhelmed in a matter of moments.

The SSD will be able to fire continuously throughout and at much, much longer ranges. Combined with the over 200 gigaton yield (most likely getting into the 400-500GT due to its sheer power) it's more than enough to guarantee a one-hit, one-kill each time, and the SSDs rate of fire will remain constant throughout. This is a 11 mile long warship with over 4000 turbolasers firing at once, granted they are linked in groups of 8. The ship's targeting computer is more than likely advanced enough target several Reapers at once.

And also, not every Reaper would be firing at the exact same time, they'd damage each other and it'd be an immense cluster-ton of them.

Again, that is true, but it still was taken out by a fighter, so if a reaper took out its shields, well that pretty much sums up 'destroyed'

The reapers also are very quick, you don't see it, but they are able to move faster then a fighter if they need to, so they could quickly overwhelm a SSD even at long range, and combine 300-400 kilotons by >100 million reapers, that's over 100 trillion yield for their weapons on all sides.

The reapers will destroy the star destroyer, plain and simple. Granted the SSD will take out a lot of reapers, but it will be overwhelmed and destroyed.

Well, from what I've seen in the games, and what I've read in both the ME series and the 40k series, Reapers haven't destroyed mountain ranges in single blasts. And if the Reapers destructive yield was actually that high, I bet they would've caused a lot more damage in ME3. Granted, their lasers can cut through ships like butter, but comparing the damage they deal compared to say, an Annhilator Cannon on the arm of an Imperator Class Titan? The damage is negligable.

Reapers have the advantage of near perfect maneuverability in space, and hordes of Oculus Drones, as well as the Thanix Cannons which fire what is essentially matter accelerated to such a form that it becomes a matter-energy weapon, with the force of a relativistic kinetic weapon behind a beam of heat and mass, this is a thing that in ME2 we learned could also be fired from any size of full warship, even lowly frigates. Also, Reapers are REALLY fast in space. Just too hard for the Cov to hit.

The main gun of the Destiny Ascension can hit with around 64 kilotons, roughly the same yield as the MAC of the piddely little UNSC Frigate (which in Mass Effect would weigh in as a Cruiser). Considering that MAC guns get more powerful as they get longer, just imagine the destructive yields of the 4 MAC guns on the 6km long UNSC Inifnity. The Covenant also have plasma based energy weapons that would bypass kinetic barriers. Also Slipspace>Eezo/Mass Relays. Also no restrictive Treaty of Farixen.

Exactly my thoughts. I was hoping and expecting it to be something like that, and when I saw it wasn't, I would have been dissapointed had it not been so fierce. Maybe the final battle and maybe even the ending would have been better than it was if they would have just left out multiplayer and spent all their time and resources on singleplayer, the only thing that matters in a game like this.

I've found, comically enough, that the most dangerous parasitic alien race I've seen isn't the Tyranid or Zerg, but actually... The X parasites from Metroid Fusion, a Nintendo E-6 title. Give 'em a look: They can infect anything organic, take its memories and knowledge, kill it by multiplying rapidly inside it, and then create copies of themselves and use the absorbed DNA to turn into whatever they infected. They are very difficult to destroy using conventional weapons, as well.

Just the first 30 seconds or so of this song is SO Mass Effect. Phenomenal. The whole "Bring in da Crucible!" part is not my thing. But before that... Mass Effect. It's very similar to Suicide Mission's melody, in a different pitch.

Well, I'm just emphasizing that covenant supercarriers could have armor that is more than a dozen meters thick, if they armor their ships proportionally. Smaller covenant ships like CCS-Class battlecruisers might be in danger, but the massive 28km long supercarriers would be simply too large to deal with without a huge amount of reapers focusing on one target.

I always estimate for most Thanix canons to be roughly equal to a small super-MAC. Also, as for the Supercarrier, remember that even when you do manage to destroy a reaper, it'll keep fighting, indoctrinating with it's wreckage, and shooting until it's completely incinerated. So if the carrier got any pieces stuck on the outer hull, or even if a small bit of Reaper floated around nearby, the battle wouldn't be over. The SC might just be destroyed internally from the crew.

One must take into account gameplay & story segregation when it comes to small arms. The HUD of human soldiers obviously would help them with their aiming but the creators of Halo weren't out to make a military simulator hence the reason why the MA5 can't be used at conventional ranges like an IRL firefight. They might also be using more advanced munitions like those of the Sniper Rifle. Also the Thanix Cannon is heat based & very effective vs Kinetic Barriers. Same for Plasma/Hard Light.

I think CoD MW3 and medal of honor have some good orchestral music to set the tone for an emotional scene but Mass effect 3 has the ability to make an epic battle moreso epic with some kick ass music!

I always have people asking me why i play this game when i mention it. The reason i play this game isnt for the gameplay. Hell iy's really not even for the characters (Though i love them too). It's the Ideals they instill. When these ideals are mixed with situationally perfected music like this, it can really build something of an idea in one's mind. THAT is why i play this Game!

I always think that if the UNSC were the ones to make first contact instead of the Alliance then the Normandy would be a UNSC Frigate with stealth technology from a Prowler, reverse engineered Forerunner shield technology from Shield World Trevelyan and an Eezo core to make it more maneuverable. Imagine how cool it would be to bring Scorpions, Pelicans, Warthogs and UNSC Marines to bear against the Reapers!

I still laugh out loud every time i see this cut scene it stars so good, but ends so bad. "Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space" from ME2 more or less confirms it that when the armada fires at the same time, and most of the exotic particle canons, and nuclear warheads misses the Old god machines and hits earth behind them instead.

Earth should've been a HUGE version of ME2's Suicide Mission where you assign all your various war assets to do different things, and watch their actions unfold, some in cutscene, some in gameplay.

A single 29km Supercarrier managed to tie up Reach & its considerable defenses by itself until it got destroyed. Harbinger, the largest of the Reapers isn't larger than the comparatively puny 5.6km UNSC Infinity which can run over ships of a similar size without taking damage. The Thanix cannon is more of a beam version of a mass driver weapon, the speed of the molten slug is what slices through enemy ships. And i do think the lower end halo civilizations could take on the basic Mass effect civs in quality (not numbers though), just not the reapers whose strength is the fact that they don't have soft spots like command, moral or supply to exploit which is the main way those navies were designed to find and exploit. The only race that operates like that is the flood.

Problem with the suicidal charge option is that Reapers do the samething. There is absolutely no risk to the Reaper since it is 100% mechanical and therefore is immune to Flood infection.

The reapers do have numbers on their side, though, despite halo's immensely powerful ships. In order to lay siege to the entire galaxy the reapers would have to number in the trillions, maybe more.

All Im going to say is read the horus heresay books ;) they're awesome anyway and they explain A LOT about warhammer 40k's "space magic" away (40k universe is in a dark age so a lot of the science seems like magic.....the horus heresay books are essentially warhammer 30k). Also the man known as the emperor is far more powerful than he lets on (he is trying to stop people worshipping him as a god so hides his powers...also you find psykers are mistrusted more than in 40k period)
