Vera Lee
Clover Lyrics

I like

I like the candle burning slowly

Until the day I die

I see
I see my feet are sinking slowly

Until it swallows me

I feel

I feel the weight upon my shoulders

And I can breathe no more

I know

I know the end is coming closer

And I speak no more

Oh yeah it's all right

Whoa yeah it's gone

I try

I try to scale the walls around it

To know their far too high

I feel

I feel the hook is going deeper

Deep into my eye

I found

I found the treasure of

But your know it's not mine

I sound

I sound the sorrow drinking loudly

Loudly all through the night

Oh yeah it's all right

Whoa yeah it's gone

I like

I like the candle burning slowly

Until the day I die

I see

I see my feet are sinking slowly

Until it swallows me

I feel

I feel the weight upon my shoulders

And I can breathe no more

I know

I know the end is coming closer

And I speak no more

Oh yeah it's all right

Whoa yeah it's gone

Overall Meaning

It seems as though Clover's song "Vera Lee" explores the feeling of being stuck and overwhelmed, with the constant repetition of "I like the candle burning slowly / Until the day I die" reflecting a sense of resignation and acceptance towards what seems to be an inevitable end. The imagery of sinking and the weight on the shoulders convey the feeling of being trapped or stuck in a difficult situation with no way out.

The lines "I try to scale the walls around it / To know their far too high" also contribute to this feeling of hopelessness and helplessness. It's as if the singer is trying to find a way out or a solution to their problem but finding it impossible to do so. The repetition of "Oh yeah it's all right / Whoa yeah it's gone" also adds to this overall sense of finality, as though the singer has accepted their fate and is now resigned to it.
