Someday You'll Want Me To Want You
Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't want to
Go on without you
It's so bad to be alone
Oh baby come home
I need you (yes I do now)
My room is so blue
I keep seein' your face
Oh, every place
Here in the gloom
Of my lonely room
I hold her handkerchief
And smell her sweet perfume
Oh, oh, oh I can't stand to (no, no, no)
Live on without you
Oh my darlin' hear my plea
C'mon back to me
Here in the gloom
Of my lonely room
I hold her handkerchief
And smell her sweet perfume
Oh, I can't stand to
Live on without you
Oh my darlin' hear my plea
C'mon back to me (I don't want to go on without you)

I don't want to, I don't wanna baby (I don't want to go on without you)
Sure I don't wanna, I don't wanna

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters's song "There You Go" convey a sense of profound loneliness and desperation as the singer mourns the absence of their lover. The opening lines, "I don't want to go on without you, it's so bad to be alone," set the tone for the entire song. The singer is struggling to cope with the pain of separation and is begging their lover to come back home. The repetition of the phrase "come on back to me" emphasizes the singer's desperation and their belief that they cannot go on without their lover.

The lyrics in the second verse evoke a vivid portrait of the singer's loneliness by describing their "blue" room and longing for the presence of their lover. The handkerchief and perfume mentioned in the lyrics serve to intensify the sadness and longing, as they provide a tangible reminder of the lover's presence even in their absence.

Overall, "There You Go" is a powerful and emotional song that captures the pain of lost love and the yearning for a lost loved one.

One of the great groups and lead singers ever put together! The background singers were incredible lead singers themselves. Unbelievable harmony.

Clyde McPhatter - one of the best. I love this song. Clyde is outstanding on lead, bass is on point and I don't know who that is in the background , but he did a phenomenal job also. Even though it's supposed to be a sad song, the talent made it a feel-good song.
