In 1996, the band played the very first Ozzfest. In 1997, their first album Coal Chamber was released; it produced one single and a video, "Loco" (the video was also added after the end credits of Dee Snider's horror film Strangeland, the soundtrack for which the band also recorded an exclusive song).
Their second album Chamber Music followed in 1999. Between the releases, Foss married Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose and became pregnant, necessitating another bass player on tour, a role filled by Nadja Peulen. Foss came back for the recording of Coal Chamber's third album, Dark Days (2002), but left after the studio sessions to raise her daughter. The band's only single and video was the song "Fiend."
Their 4th album Rivals released on May 19th, 2015. The singles on it were I.O.U Nothing and Rivals. It stepped away from the gothic elements from the last 2 albums and was described as groove/nu metal. They disbanded a year after the album was released.
They reunited in 2022, and so far no hints of new music will be released.
Anxiety
Coal Chamber Lyrics

I pray for safety with no nets
I am the one they won't forget
Life's a lie
Nothing's left the same
I have been dismayed
Anxiety, shut up
See space between heads
This grave is not open yet
I pray for safety with no nets
I am the one they won't forget
Life's a lie
Nothing's left the same
I have been dismayed
Anxiety, shut up
Is everything to forget?
They'll pray for safety with no nets (hehe!)
Life's a lie
Nothing's left the same
I have been dismayed
Anxiety, shut up
Anxiety…could be anxiety…
The lyrics of "Anxiety" by Coal Chamber describe a feeling of isolation and detachment from the world around the artist. The opening line "I look but everyone seems dead" conveys a sense of hopelessness and despair as the artist looks for connection but finds no one alive or present. The repetition of the prayer for safety "with no nets" implies a fear of falling or failing, and the desire to be protected from harm.
The artist feels like they will not be forgotten, but at the same time recognizes that life is a lie, and that everything changes. The lyrics convey a sense of instability and unease, as if the artist is searching for something solid to hold onto but can't find it. The lines "See space between heads/This grave is not open yet" suggest a sense of separateness from others, almost like the artist is watching the world from a distance.
The repeated refrain "Anxiety, shut up" acknowledges the presence of anxiety as a constant companion, and hints at the frustration and exhaustion that comes with managing it on a daily basis. Overall, the lyrics of "Anxiety" paint a picture of a person struggling to find their place in the world, and the ongoing battle to quiet the voice of anxiety that threatens to overwhelm them.
