In 1996, the band played the very first Ozzfest. In 1997, their first album Coal Chamber was released; it produced one single and a video, "Loco" (the video was also added after the end credits of Dee Snider's horror film Strangeland, the soundtrack for which the band also recorded an exclusive song).
Their second album Chamber Music followed in 1999. Between the releases, Foss married Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose and became pregnant, necessitating another bass player on tour, a role filled by Nadja Peulen. Foss came back for the recording of Coal Chamber's third album, Dark Days (2002), but left after the studio sessions to raise her daughter. The band's only single and video was the song "Fiend."
Their 4th album Rivals released on May 19th, 2015. The singles on it were I.O.U Nothing and Rivals. It stepped away from the gothic elements from the last 2 albums and was described as groove/nu metal. They disbanded a year after the album was released.
They reunited in 2022, and so far no hints of new music will be released.
Fade Away
Coal Chamber Lyrics

Left me in the dark
Because you took it too far
Now I keep your heart locked up
With herbs and bone in a black Mason jar
Fade away
Karma never forgets
Before you rise against me
I know your problems
All of your demons
They're one in the same
I know them so damn well
I can call them all out by name
Fade away
Karma never forgets
It'll be one hell of a war
Before you rise against me
Fade away
Karma never forgets
It'll be one hell of a war
Before you rise against me
You test the waters
Time after time
Never expecting the waters to rise...rise...rise!!!
You test the waters
Time after time
Never expecting the waters to rise...rise...rise!!!
Stripped me apart
Left me in the dark
Because you took it too far
Now I keep your heart locked up
With herbs and bone in a black Mason jar
Fade away
Karma never forgets
It'll be one hell of a war
Before you rise against me
Fade away
Karma never forgets
It'll be one hell of a war
Before you rise against me
Fade away
Karma never forgets
It'll be one hell of a war
Before you rise against me
In "Fade Away", Coal Chamber sings about a toxic relationship where one person took things too far and left their partner feeling stripped apart and abandoned. The lyrics suggest that the offender's actions will ultimately come back to haunt them, as karma never forgets. The singer has kept the offender's heart locked up in a jar, a powerful symbol of their emotional imprisonment and the hurt they have suffered.
The song also implies that the singer has a deeper understanding of the offender's issues than they realize. They know all of their demons and can call them out by name. This insight suggests that the offender's actions may stem from deeper psychological issues that they refuse to address or acknowledge. The repeated refrain of "Fade Away" reinforces the idea that this toxic relationship is over and that the offender's negative influence will eventually fade away, even if it takes a long and painful "war" to make it happen.
