In 1996, the band played the very first Ozzfest. In 1997, their first album Coal Chamber was released; it produced one single and a video, "Loco" (the video was also added after the end credits of Dee Snider's horror film Strangeland, the soundtrack for which the band also recorded an exclusive song).
Their second album Chamber Music followed in 1999. Between the releases, Foss married Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose and became pregnant, necessitating another bass player on tour, a role filled by Nadja Peulen. Foss came back for the recording of Coal Chamber's third album, Dark Days (2002), but left after the studio sessions to raise her daughter. The band's only single and video was the song "Fiend."
Their 4th album Rivals released on May 19th, 2015. The singles on it were I.O.U Nothing and Rivals. It stepped away from the gothic elements from the last 2 albums and was described as groove/nu metal. They disbanded a year after the album was released.
They reunited in 2022, and so far no hints of new music will be released.
Orion
Coal Chamber Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Death's possession
Orion is over your head now
For the faithless, the misery-laden
Orion is over your head now
Behind the moon, alongside hunger
Kissing her with candle light
Orion is over your head now
Orion is over her head now
Over her head now
Orion is over her head now
The lyrics to Coal Chamber's song "Orion" describe the presence of the constellation Orion in the night sky and its symbolic meaning for those who are struggling with faith or suffering. The first two lines refer to Death as possessing the daughter of darkness, suggesting that someone has been claimed by death and is now in the state of darkness. The rest of the lyrics describe Orion as a symbol of hope or a guiding star for those who are dealing with misery or faithlessness.
The line "Behind the moon, alongside hunger, kissing her with candle light" suggests that Orion is shining a light on those hidden by darkness and hunger, bringing a glimmer of hope to their lives. The lyrics use Orion as a metaphor for an unseen force that is always present, watching over and guiding us even in the stillness of the night. The repetition of the line "Orion is over your head now" emphasizes the importance of this guiding force in our lives, reminding us that even when we feel lost or alone, there is always something looking out for us in the darkness.
