In 1996, the band played the very first Ozzfest. In 1997, their first album Coal Chamber was released; it produced one single and a video, "Loco" (the video was also added after the end credits of Dee Snider's horror film Strangeland, the soundtrack for which the band also recorded an exclusive song).
Their second album Chamber Music followed in 1999. Between the releases, Foss married Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose and became pregnant, necessitating another bass player on tour, a role filled by Nadja Peulen. Foss came back for the recording of Coal Chamber's third album, Dark Days (2002), but left after the studio sessions to raise her daughter. The band's only single and video was the song "Fiend."
Their 4th album Rivals released on May 19th, 2015. The singles on it were I.O.U Nothing and Rivals. It stepped away from the gothic elements from the last 2 albums and was described as groove/nu metal. They disbanded a year after the album was released.
They reunited in 2022, and so far no hints of new music will be released.

It's time to watch out for number one (2x)
Sleep... well
It's time to watch out for number one (2x)
This is unhappy, this is unhappy
So save, save your sorry, sorry self
(Repeat)
No... hope
It's time to watch out for number one (2x)
Fist... first
It's time to watch out for number one (2x)
This is unhappy, this is unhappy
So save, save your sorry, sorry self
(Repeat)
What would you do when I can find you? (Reach your obsesion) (x3)
Loyalty... none
It's time to watch out for number one (2x)
It's... begun
It's time to watch out for number one (2x)
This is unhappy, this is unhappy
So save, save your sorry, sorry self
(Repeat)
What would you do when I can find you? (Reach your obsesion) (x4)
The lyrics of Coal Chamber's song Save Yourself are a warning to the listener to look out for themselves and not trust others. The first verse emphasizes the need to be cautious and aware of lies and deceit around them. The repetition of the phrase 'watch out for number one' reinforces the message that the listener must prioritize their own well-being above all else. The second verse adds to the bleak picture by describing a world with no hope and where loyalty is non-existent. The phrase 'save your sorry, sorry self' is a cry for self-preservation and a reminder that no one else will look out for them.
The chorus is a repetition of the phrase 'this is unhappy' and 'save your sorry, sorry self.' The lyricist is emphasizing the importance of taking care of oneself in a world that is full of deceit and danger. The final words of the song, 'what would you do when I can find you?/reach your obsession' add a haunting, threatening tone to the message of self-preservation. It suggests that even in trying to protect oneself, there may be those who will seek to harm or control them.
Overall, the song Save Yourself is a stark warning to the listener to prioritize their own well-being and guard against those who may seek to harm them. The lyrics present a bleak view of a world with little hope, and the repetition of the phrase 'this is unhappy' adds to the sense of dread and danger.
