sirens
Coasta Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I hear the sirens call
they're off and wailing in the deep
they sing to beckon me
and join them at 1000 leagues
you see the long lines roll
they're stretching out to touch these shores
and then they just fall back
to form up and peel once more

and all I see
is waves crashing over me

they break my bones
I'm in the shallows all alone

I feel the currents change
the winds have blown your sales away
I'm now a sinking stone
right to the bottom I fall straight
you catch the sparks inside
that gives the ocean black some light

burn off when we collide
falling to ash on this coastline

Overall Meaning

In Coasta's song "Sirens", the singer hears the irresistible call of the sirens, who sing an alluring song to entice him to come and join them at the depths of the sea. The sirens' voice is heard through the wailing of the sirens in the deep ocean. The singer describes how the sirens' call is strong and mesmerizing, causing the long lines to stretch to touch the shores but then fall back to form again. He then describes how the waves keep crashing over him, breaking his bones and leaving him all alone in the shallows. He feels the currents change, and the winds have blown away his sails, making him a sinking stone, falling straight to the bottom.

The lyrics suggest that the singer is lost and caught in the depths of his emotions, and the sirens' call is a metaphor for the temptations and seductions of life. The waves crashing over him represent the trials and challenges he is facing, breaking him down and leaving him feeling alone and isolated. The sirens' call is so strong that he is unable to resist it, and he feels like a sinking stone, helpless and sinking deeper into the depths. The sparks inside the ocean that catch black light could represent hope, however, they are short-lived, and the singer ultimately falls to ash on the coastline, suggesting that he has lost his battle.
