History
Cobra Skulls were formed in 2005 by Devin Peralta (bass, vocals), Charlie Parker (guitar) and Chad Cleaveland (drums). They released an EP titled Draw Muhammad in 2006. The EP caught the attention of Red Scare Industries who signed the band and released their debut album "Sitting Army" in 2007.
To promote the album the band went on tour with Against Me!, Mad Caddies, and The Loved Ones, opening shows for them.[1] During the 2007 tour the band added a second guitarist Adam Beck.
After releasing the "Never Be a Machine/ Lost in Campaigns" 7" in time for the 2008 American elections, the band put out their second full length, "American Rubicon" in July 2009. This album was also promoted through an extensive tour schedule- this time with other Red Scare bands, including the Copyrights, the Sidekicks and the Menzingers.
Music style
Devin Peralta is half Argentinian and therefore writes and sings some songs in Spanish as can be heard with the tracks "¡Hasta Los Corba Skulls Siempre!" (from Draw Muhammad EP) and "Use Your Cobra Skulls" (from Sitting Army LP). While the first track is sung completely in Spanish, the latter track mixes both English and Spanish.

The Cobra And The Man-Whore
Cobra Skulls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
two sins are better when you want to have fun
so when the preacher Theodore
gets bored and wants to score
he calls a man-whore Jones.
a preacher made confession today
two hundred dollars was all that he paid
that methamphetamine
I want to get high when I get laid
the preacher and the man-whore
a methamphetamine perfume
the preacher talks he's afraid of anybody gay
but he loves a man-whore in a motel room
Jones went to the T.V. station
when he discovered
the preacher's occupation
he said I'm paid to be a slave
but I just can't behave because
the preacher wants to take my rights away
the preacher and the man-whore
the wife and kids are safe at home
and when he goes on down to Denver
to mix business with pleasure
the preacher, he don't sleep alone
Ted Haggard bragged about
connections in the white house
and promised Bush he could count
on the voes of a million evangelicals
The song "The Cobra and the Man-Whore" by Cobra Skulls talks about the hypocritical nature of a preacher named Theodore who hires a man-whore named Jones to fulfill his sexual desires. The lyrics suggest that the preacher is secretly attracted to men, despite publicly condemning homosexuality. The preacher's addiction to methamphetamine is also mentioned, which he wants to have before sex. The lyrics paint a picture of a person who is not only full of contradictions but also abuses their power in society.
The theme of the song is a scathing critique of the rampant hypocrisy often seen in religious and political leaders. It exposes how they can publicly denounce immoral behavior while engaging in it themselves. Moreover, the song also points out the preacher's lack of concern for his family while indulging in his sinful desires.
The song highlights the reality of power dynamics in society that often give the influential the upper hand over the less powerful. It signifies how the less fortunate like Jones may be coerced into doing things against their will, and how the ones with power may abuse it by taking advantage of those who desperately need to survive.
