The Church Of Hot Addiction
Cobra Starship Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just let me ask you,
"Hey, have you heard of my religion?"
It's called the church of hot addiction,
And we believe that God is lust for everything.
Because now,
The time has come for your devotion,
And you already got the motion.
What I need to just give it, give it, give it to me
(I'm waiting, I'm waiting. Turn out the lights.)

Tonight
I am the drug you can't deny.
Tonight
Gonna get you high.
My love is electric.

Hey hey hey
My love is electric, yeah.
Hey hey hey
My love is electric.
Hey hey hey
My love is electric, yeah.
Hey hey hey
My love is electric, yeah.

Just let me tell you,
"Hey, you gotta get the cobra blessed now."
You're really only selling sex now,
But I can pay the price you charge for what I need.
Cause I,
I got a messy new compulsion
And you already got a notion
Of what I need
So give it, just give it, just give it to me
(I'm waiting I'm waiting. Turn out the lights.)

Tonight
I am the drug you can't deny.
Tonight
Gonna get you high.
My love is electric.

I got electric eyes, and I can get you high.
I got electric eyes; I'm gonna get you

Tonight
I am the drug you can't deny.
Tonight
Gonna get you high.
My love is electric.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cobra Starship's song "The Church Of Hot Addiction" are a religious reference to the god of lust. The singer talks about his "religion," which he calls the "church of hot addiction." According to the singer, the god of this religion is "lust for everything." He convinces his audience of listeners to join his religion and embrace their desires. He is asking permission to share his religion with the listener, by telling them about it.

The second verse is about the singer finding a potential partner who sells sex. He is willing to pay any price to fulfill his needs. He has a new compulsion, and his partner knows what he needs. The song is about the connection between lust and addiction. The singer of the song is addicted to the high that lust brings, just as one can be addicted to drugs. The chorus of the song repeats the line "My love is electric," emphasizing the physical and chemical high that comes with lust.

The song can be interpreted as a critique of religious beliefs that condemn sexuality. It suggests that embracing one's desires and fulfilling them can be its own form of worship. The lyrics of the song are open to interpretation, but the overall theme is clear: embracing one’s desires leads to a high that can be as addicting as drugs.

FBR was really ahead of its time and you can see how well they had their stuff together since so many of their original videos are still up while most others got re-uploaded starting in 2008
