Lucid
Cocaine 80s Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Chorus)
Maybe, the world’s just going through shit
And that’s the part of the design
Just maybe he’s up there dreaming lucid
Been in control the whole time

(Verse)
She chased me through nightmare I turned around
To ask why the fuck she’s chasing me
While the whole world is burning down
She said I was way too close to fire
To get me to the other side
It’s why she had to open fire

(Chorus)
Maybe I’m just going through shit
And that’s a part of my design
Maybe all my dreams are lucid
Been in control the whole time

(Verse)
You’re living through the nightmares
You pretend to smile
You forget your pretending high as fuck
Don’t wanna come down
Well baby then don’t, let’s get higher
When the weed’s gone and you’re still high
You could be going out your mind

(Chorus)
Maybe, you’re just going through shit
And that’s a part of your design
Maybe all your dreams are lucid
And you’ve been in control the whole time

(Bridge)
Relationship nightmares it’s all a drain
And the demons you’ve been dreaming up are angels under the pain
And I heard the world could end tomorrow
At least we won’t have to pay the bill
Won’t be dreaming it’s gon’ get real

(Outro)
Maybe, just maybe we’re just going through shit

And it’s a part of our design
Maybe all your dreams are lucid

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cocaine 80s' song "Lucid" present a deep reflection on the nature of life and reality, suggesting that perhaps everything that's happening around us is simply a part of some greater design. The song revolves around the idea of lucid dreaming, where one is aware that they are dreaming and can control their actions within the dream. This motif is used to explore the relationship between our waking lives and the unknown forces that seem to guide us, hinting that perhaps our reality is just another dream we're all having.

The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, describing a mysterious figure who is chasing the singer through a nightmare. When asked why they are chasing him, she simply replies that the singer was "way too close to fire" and needed to be brought to safety on the other side. This character can be interpreted as a metaphor for destiny or fate, which is constantly pushing us in certain directions even when we don't understand why.

The chorus reinforces this idea of things happening for a reason, even when it may not make sense to us. The second verse moves away from the abstract and focuses on a more personal level, describing someone who is pretending to be happy even though they're "high as fuck" and "don't wanna come down." This suggests a sense of escapism and the desire to ignore the problems of the real world. The bridge brings all these themes together, suggesting that even when we're at our lowest points and feel like we're being drained of all our energy, there is still some hope of finding a way out.

People just have no idea. This dude is the truth. I believe he’s more influential than we perceive. Artists like Pink Sweats are dope as hell but undeniably derivative of JF. He really deserved a Frank Ocean type career! Still this is unsung greatness 💯

I remember seeing Cocaine 80s on a Big Sean blog back in 2011 & became hooked to their music & discovered how great Fauntleroy is. He's such a great songwriter & singer. Pooh Bear is the only other I know of who should get that kind of love too. He's just as phenomenal & talented. Look up Pooh Bear's song Yes Please. It's incredible.
