Montoya's career began in the mid-70's when Albert Collins asked him to join his band as drummer. Collins took Montoya under his wing and taught him his "icy hot" guitar style. The two remained friends even after Montoya left Collins' band.
In the early 80's John Mayall heard Montoya playing guitar in a Los Angles bar. Soon after Mayall asked Montoya to join the newly reformed Bluesbreakers. He remained a member of the band for 10 years.
In the early 90's Montoya decided it was time to go out on his own. He has recorded several highly acclaimed blues CD's.thankfully, he did it in Santa Cruz
Am I Losing You
Coco Montoya Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Calling out another man's name
My suspicion's killing me
Are you playing the cheating game?
Once a week got with your friends
Well, it's turning into three
Can't help but wonder where you've been
I wanna know where I stand
Am I in, am I out of your plan?
I wanna know what to do
Am I losing you?
I found a note you meant to hide
The message says, let's meet at night
Phone keeps ringing, tell me, why?
It's wrong number every time
I wanna know where I stand
Am I in, am I out of your plan?
I wanna know what to do
Am I losing you?
Come home in the middle of the night
Girl, you know that it just ain't right
What's going on?
You got me so confused
Baby, you got me singing the blue
All night long, girl
I wanna know where I stand
Am I in, am I out of your plan?
I wanna know what to do
Am I losing you?
I wanna know, I can't stand it, baby
Tell me am I losing you?
Am I losing you? Am I losing you?
I wanna know, am I losing you?
The song is about a man who suspects that his partner is cheating on him. He hears her talking in her sleep, calling out another man's name, and discovers a note that she meant to hide, which suggests that she is meeting someone at night. She also goes out with her friends more frequently, and the man can't help but wonder where she's been. He is confused and wants to know where he stands in their relationship - whether he is in or out of her plan. He fears that he might be losing her.
The lyrics are quite straightforward, and there is no deep metaphor or hidden meaning here. The singer is expressing his fear and suspicion that his relationship is falling apart. The fact that his partner is calling out another man's name in her sleep is a telling sign that she may be seeing someone else. He also feels that he is losing her, and the uncertainty of not knowing the truth is driving him crazy.

I saw Coco Montoya play several years ago in Colorado Springs. Sat 10 feet from the stage. He really is an incredible guitar player considering he started his career as a drummer. He was incredibly gracious to the people who stayed for autographs shaking hands and talking to us. Thumbs up to a wonderful human being.

Originally written by ''The Cate Brothers'', an old country -rock band from the mid 1970s. Great song...i also love Sherman Robertson's superb version.

Coco's high tenor is unmatched in person. He is a very gracious gentle giant of a man! If you haven't yet seen him live... do so. Also look up Popa Chubby. Together they are un unforgetable show. Peace...
