Nasty Little Revolution
Codeseven Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I so want to travel back in time
To change the way you've fixed your mind
Can't leave well enough alone for long
The politicians change their lines
They want to give it all back
Before it's too late
And teachers let their students choose
Teachers let their students choose

The money hungry wash their hands
These fat old bastards loose their plans
The battle masters make their peace
And violent hands will soon release
A love of such intensity
It exposes all of our greed

Teachers let your students choose
Teachers let your students choose
And a lesson was intended
But your speeches never ended
Now we're waiting for a chance
Just to speak

Get on the floor
Get under your desk
This is it, this is not a test
Get on the floor
Get under your desk
This is not a test

Oh, teacher what a cruel mistake

You know we can't leave well enough alone
For goodness sake

Overall Meaning

The song "Nasty Little Revolution" by Codeseven talks about the vocalist's desire to travel back in time to alter someone's way of thinking. The lyrics highlight the frustration of not being able to leave things alone and the constant changes in political lines. The song also speaks about the greed of people in powerful positions, who wash their hands off the decisions they make, leaving the consequences for the rest of us to deal with. The battle masters make their peace, and people with violent tendencies are set free, showcasing the lack of responsibility taken by decision-makers.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the important role that teachers play in shaping student's minds. It suggests that teachers should allow their students to choose their own paths, marking the significance of self-discovery and self-awareness. However, the song also critiques the speeches and lectures given by teachers or anyone in a position of authority, which "Never ended." The song raises the question of whether teacher's benefits from a 'power trip' and if the lessons they intend to impart are, in fact, cruel mistakes in the long run.

Great album!! Singer reminds me of Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears, for some reason, on this song.

Saw these guys play in a living room back in 98 or 99 @ Macrock in the Burg. Leaches of Karma!

I thought it was "Teachers let your students cheat" since the album first came out, and only now learned it was "choose" not "cheat". Makes more sense from a political point but I thought it was perhaps something more anarchic. Anyway, I love this song.
