The Crowing
Coheed and Cambria Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I fed the clues of a lost day killed in motion
But I thought of it so like there's no other way it could've been done
Will they size my fit for a puzzle I wish not to play a part in it
A heart stained in hate a feeling I fear will play circles

But you, you were my favorite
But you, you know, you were my favorite
I severed my ties to shroud this body under the streets of this city
And wait for the day when I am summoned to walk across this face
Well slowly but clearer now in visions that play and plague memories
I love them with all (heart) as a son should to mother and father

But you, you were my favorite
But you, you know, you were my favorite

Would I walk through the door?
Shedding the light of all life
With the rise and reform
Would I come as before?

Pray you're not the only one
Pray you're not the only

If given mistakes would I take them back
If erasing them could, if erasing them would

What would they be the words that I say?
Your face and the door between
I've parted three ways for you the New one that I loved

Did you ever really know before my face shame to break
Did you ever really know before my mind to scared to think
Did you ever really know before my name son to these
Did you, did you, did you come clean in the end from the start

Dear Ambelina,
The Prise wishes you
To watch over me oh

Dear Ambelina,
The Prise wishes you
To watch over me oh

I've fought the decisions that call and lost
My part as the relevant piece in this
I will come reformed

In short for the murders of those I court
I bless the hour that holds your fall
I will kill you all

I will call you out from shelter burn your wings you'll know better (I
Will call you out, burn your wings)

(Dear Ambelina, the Prise wishes you to watch over me)

I will call you out from shelter burn your wings and learn their
Letters (I will call you out, burn you wings)

Dear Ambelina,

The Prise wishes you
To watch over me oh

Overall Meaning

In Coheed and Cambria's song The Crowing, the lyrics seem to be about the singer reflecting on their past actions and the consequences that came with them. The opening lines "I fed the clues of a lost day killed in motion, but I thought of it so like there's no other way it could've been done" suggests that the singer is haunted by a violent past that they feel was unavoidable. They fear being judged by others and forced to take part in some sort of twisted puzzle that they want no part of. This fear is represented by the line "A heart stained in hate a feeling I fear will play circles."

The singer then reminisces about happier times, recalling a person they loved and cherished. It's unclear who this person is, but the line "you were my favorite" suggests a deep connection. The singer then pivots back to their dark past, describing how they've severed ties with the world in order to hide from their past deeds. However, they seem to have a change of heart, with the chorus suggesting that they might be willing to face the consequences of their actions one day.

The rest of the song is cryptic, with lots of references to characters and events that may or may not be connected. It paints a picture of a tortured person struggling to come to terms with their past, but also willing to move forward if it means making things right. The repeated pleas to "watch over me" suggest a person who feels lost and alone, but still has hope for the future.

"Now bless the hour that holds your fall, I will kill you all" always gives me beautiful chills

@jamesyates517

Yes sire same here the way the break down hits is just your soul

@user-rw4ee5pv3x

I have no friends or significant other. I feel very low in life and hardly feel like staying alive. Coheed is one of the things in this world that helps me, if you're reading this you aren't alone out there

@frostxinfinity747

I thought I had friends and they were nowhere to be found when I needed them. My significant other was moved to another state where we were supposed to work together and begin again because the current state I live in has been been cause for a whole set of encyclopedias worth of trauma. I got her there, and she basically left me here. She has loving family here. This state has never caused her any trauma. She's just a cunt. I'll gladly be your friend because I don't want to be friends with people that think they are something more than they are. I know what and who I am, if you do too, hit me up. You're not alone, from the other side of the fence. It's not greener, homie.
