Time Consumer
Coheed and Cambria Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of the play the role to your part
Librarian find me the pole
The one that kicks your head in
With my own time role your own innocence by
Grab on to my sleeve
The one that grabs at your ankle
Debate to understand that we all have a flaw
God grant you one wish
To turn back the time...correct and create
Me and my star Matthew goodnight
You know by law when you'll be forgiven
Maria my star Matthew goodnight
You know my lord when you'll be forgiven
So they pulled your confidence down
With those verbal discrepancies
Now and then you'll gain what they've lost
Through a challenge of unpronounced
Pain is only a pulse if you stop feeling it
You might be able to use
The very thing that makes us up
Me and my star Matthew goodnight
You know by law when you'll be forgiven
Maria my star Matthew goodnight
You know my lord when you'll be forgiven
Wait, now, here when will you believe?
Me I'm merely asking you to help me
When did I say to murder?
Wait, now, here, please hear me out
Time consumer, time consuming, consume me
The lyrics to Coheed and Cambria's song Time Consumer are open to interpretation, but at its core, it seems to be about the struggles of life and the desire to turn back time and correct past mistakes. The first few lines speak of memories that have become stale, suggesting a longing for change and new experiences. The phrase "play the role to your part" implies a sense of conformity, and the call for a "pole that kicks your head in" suggests a desire for something to shake things up and break the monotony.
The next few lines speak to the idea that we all have flaws and failures in life, and that it's important to acknowledge and understand them. The final lines of the first verse speak to the desire to turn back time and correct mistakes, to make things right.
The song then moves into another verse that speaks to the idea that others may try to bring us down with their words, but that we can rise above it through our own strength and resilience. The idea that "pain is only a pulse if you stop feeling it" suggests that we have control over how we react to and process difficult experiences.
Overall, Time Consumer is a powerful and introspective song that speaks to the human experience and the desire to grow and evolve as individuals.

I was 12 or 13, same thing bud.
My dad died of a heroin overdose - my mom has moved us into my grandma's house and I was sleeping on the couch, failing at school. I didn't give a fuck about anything except my cd player and my skateboard.
I don't even know why I got the album, my god. Grabbed it from the store I think along with the system of a down album both had just come out.
Time consumer, delirium trigger, everything evil changed my young life. And I was already aware of a broad range of music too. Had never heard anything like this before, shook me to my core. Emotion pouring off.
Good god it's been over twenty years.

HEAVY nostalgia with this album and song. Was the first Coheed song I ever heard and fell in love, then remember seeing them in Charlotte in 2011 and no band has ever came close in concert since.

Even at this early stage, Claud was a far superior composer and storyteller than his contemporaries, there's not even a comparison, this song bleeds pure emotion from every note.
Kyle Bisogno
Josh (the drummer) actually helped shape their early sound a lot, before this Claudio mostly wrote songs that sounded a lot like Deftones, and Josh helped round out the edges of their sound and opened a lot of doors for the band, not to take anything away from the other members I'm just saying he was a big part of it

The emotion is just pouring off this song it's absurdly good
