Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs of the band had written and recorded the dance track 7 Ways To Love with Saint Etienne vocalist Sarah Cracknell on vocals but felt the song was too "cheesy" for the Etienne name. Therefore they released a 12" white label under the Cola Boy alias. After massive club success, it eventually got picked up by major label BMG Arista.
Due to contractual reasons, Stanley & Wiggs re-recorded the vocals using Cracknell's friend Janey Lee Grace's (now a BBC Radio 2 DJ) voice. For promotional purposes the band was represented by Grace and a friend of Bob Stanley's called Andrew.
The single went Top 10 and BMG asked them to follow it up with another single and potentially an album. The next single - co-written by Grace and Saint Etienne producer Ian Catt - called "He Is Cola" flopped and the Cola Boy project was shelved.
In February 2009, the alias was dusted off and applied to a remix for the latest Saint Etienne single "Method of Modern Love".

This is a very therapeutic song to listen to on a Sunday morning under the duvets.
@casanovamacbeth
It’s an odd follow up to 7 Ways to Love but I adore this. I would love both Cola Boy singles to be uploaded on Spotify.
@nicklevine1
Thanks for posting. Don't think I've heard this gem for around 15 years. One of my first ever singles. :)
@EclectikTronik
For those asking about the rhythm track it is a loop from 'the shuffle' by Van mcCoy - a great track in itself, and used as theme to BBC radio4 'sport on 4'. Many British people will recognize it instantly, even if they never knew the name of the artist
@raygrooves2666
also a loop of Suzie Quatro can the can , i am friends with her daughter also i'm sure this is produced by the saintetiene crew my mum used to work with the producers dad funny old world lol
@HtotheT
I had this track and 7 Ways To Love back in the early 90s. Where does the time go 😮 loved these tunes ❤
@upfrontbear74
Never heard this before, but have to say its well good.

I absolutely love this song. I have to correct the person that uploaded this. This isn't Sarah Cracknell on vocals. This is actually Janey Lee Grace on vocals and yes it's the same Janey Lee Grace who's now on BBC Radio 2. Is this the 7" Radio Version by any chance? If not could somebody please send me the mp3 of it? I will give you my e-mail address.

After hearing 7 ways from Totp '91 I wanted to hear more Cola boy. Very Nice dreamy tune. Miss that early 90s dance era it's was amazing. Janey Lee certainly doesn't drink Cola these days 🥤. The remix (edit) and this mixed together would make an amazing tune!
