Dreams Collide
Colbie Caillat Lyrics

In a moment
And I'm trying to pretend
So, I?ll play this feeling over and over again
Idle on this memory
Maybe I should wake instead
But I'm on my way to go back
I close my eyes
And try to hide
But wake when these dreams collide
So I?ll put this all on repeat
And I?ll make up what comes next
Now I?ll lay here day dreaming
On your chest
I close my eyes
And try to hide
But wake when these dreams collide
When it all breaks down
If I keep on wasting all my time
All alone in my head
Wish I never thought about it in the end
I close my eyes
And try to hide
But wake when these dreams collide
The song "Dreams Collide" by Colbie Caillat delves into the dilemma of being trapped in a moment, trying to move forward but failing to do so. The opening lines of the song, "I am stuck here in a moment and I'm trying to pretend, so I'll play this feeling over and over again," suggest that the singer is trying to escape a feeling or a memory. Despite attempting to wake from the memories, she realizes that she is slowly returning to the same headspace.
The singer tries to get rid of her thoughts and reminisce about her relationship with someone she once loved. She lays her head on his chest, hoping to find solace, but even then, her mind keeps racing with the same thoughts. The lyrics "I close my eyes and try to hide but wake when these dreams collide" show that the singer is trying to escape the recurring thoughts but finds herself unable to do so.
As the song progresses, the story evolves to one of acceptance of the situation, where the singer admits that she is wasting her time in her head. The last verses of the song reveal the singer's realization that she needs to let go of past memories and focus on living in the present. Overall, the lyrics portray the anguish and devastation one feels when trying to move on from their past, get over a broken relationship and live in the present.
