I Won't

I won't do what you said (no)
I'm not gonna stop feeling
I'm not gonna forget it
I don't wanna start over
I don't wanna pretend it
You are not my lover
That you're only my friend
Cause when you took my heart
It took it all
When you gave it back
I fell apart
So
I won't do what you told me
I won't do what you said, no
I'm not gonna stop feeling
I'm not gonna forget it
I don't wanna start over
I don't wanna pretend it
You are not my lover
That you're only my friend
My friend
I won't
Well, maybe you're not right for me
Maybe this is hard to see
I get lost in your beauty
And I just stop questioning
Cause when you took my heart
You took it all
When you gave it back
It fell apart
So
I won't do what you told me
I won't do what you said, no
I'm not gonna stop feeling
I'm not gonna forget it
I don't wanna start over
I don't wanna pretend
That you are not my lover
That you're only my friend
Friend
I won't
You say it's easier to burn than to build
You say it's easier to hurt than to heal
But I say you lose when you give up what you love
And I've lived my life without you long enough
So
I won't do what you told me
I won't do what you said, no
I'm not gonna stop feeling
I'm not gonna forget it
I don't wanna start over
I don't wanna pretend
That you are not my lover
That you're only my friend
Friend
I won't
I won't
I won't
I won't
No, I won't
The lyrics of Colbie Caillat's song "I Won't" tell the story of a woman who has had her heart broken by someone she trusted, and who is determined not to let that person control her or manipulate her further. The repeated refrain of the song, "I won't do what you told me, I won't do what you said," is a powerful statement of defiance, a rejection of the kind of emotional abuse that many people experience in relationships. The verses of the song explore the pain and confusion that come with heartbreak, as well as the difficulty of moving on from a relationship that has meant so much.
The song includes a number of striking images that capture the singer's emotional turmoil. For example, in the second verse, the singer admits that she gets "lost in your beauty," suggesting that she may have been initially drawn to this person for all the wrong reasons. Later in the song, the singer challenges the idea that it's easier to hurt than to heal, arguing that ultimately, "you lose when you give up what you love." This is a powerful statement of self-love and self-respect, a declaration that the singer is no longer willing to compromise her own integrity and well-being in order to please someone else.
Overall, "I Won't" is a song about empowerment and resilience in the face of heartache. It's a reminder that we always have the power to take control of our lives and refuse to accept mistreatment at the hands of others.
