01 Don't Panic
Coldplay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bones sinking like stones
All that we've fought for
Homes, places we've grown
All of us are done for

We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do
Yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world

Bones sinking like stones
All that we've fought for
Homes, places we've grown
All of us are done for

We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do
Yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world

We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do
Yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world

Oh all that I know
There's nothing here to run from

'Cause here
Everybody here's got somebody to lean on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Coldplay's "Don't Panic" appear to be pessimistic on the surface, but a deeper look reveals a sense of hope and appreciation for the world we live in. The repeated lines "Bones sinking like stones" and "All of us are done for" could represent feelings of despair and the struggles of life that bring us down. However, the line "All that we've fought for, homes, places we've grown" suggests that we still have something worth fighting for, our homes and the places that have meaning to us. These lines could speak to the inevitability of death, but also the fact that we can still find love and meaning in life despite our ultimate fate.

The recurring phrase "We live in a beautiful world" is a reminder to appreciate the beauty around us -- in nature, people, and experiences. While the world may seem dark and hopeless at times, there is still beauty to be found if we choose to see it. The final lines, "Oh all that I know, there's nothing here to run from, 'cause here, everybody here's got somebody to lean on" leave the listener with the sense that we don't have to face the struggles of life alone. We have each other to lean on, and we should cherish those connections.

Overall, "Don't Panic" is a reminder to find hope and beauty in the midst of a world that doesn't always make it easy. It speaks to the fragility of life, but also the resilience and strength we have within ourselves and with each other.

@snoopydogg3102

After 6 years I have just rediscovered this song for the first time.

I was about 7 and at that time I was getting into music, and me and my friends created a band. I wanted to make a song that we could play, an this melody just popped into my head. I knew it was already a song, but just didn’t know which, and up to now, I still remember walking up to my best friend and asking him by humming the melody to him. He immediately told me it was Dont panic.

I know it doesn’t seem like much but now when I just randomly clicked on this video all these memories just came flooding over me.

Now me and my friend live completely different live completely different lives, barely in touch and on completely different continents. So much time has passed, and it just gives me this feeling, not really sadness but like acceptance that time has passed and I’ll never get it back, but am forever grateful for it.

Nostalgia is a weird thing. I’m only 14 but I already feel so old. Please live life to the fullest to those of you who see this. Life is short, so enjoy it to the max.

Love from New York 🤍

Parachutes, such a musical adventure, no fuss, clean rock with glorious guitars and moody keyboards. A classic already.

The first three albums were clearly the best, then in Viva la Vida they started sounding so much different expect in "Cemeteries of London". I used to hear these songs when I was a kid and now that I grow up I'm a huge fan of them, specially for this album
