Beautiful World
Coldplay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bones sinking like stones
All that we've fought for
Homes, places we've grown
All of us are done for

We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do, yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world

Bones sinking like stones
All that we've fought for
Homes, places we've grown
All of us are done for

We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do, yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world

We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do, yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world

Oh all that I know
There's nothing here to run from

Cause yeah
Everybody here's got somebody to lean on

Overall Meaning

In these lyrics, Chris Martin of Coldplay explores the theme of mortality and the transient nature of life. The image of bones sinking like stones evokes a sense of finality and inevitability, as everything we have fought for and all the places we have grown will eventually come to an end. Despite this ominous imagery, Martin also acknowledges that we live in a beautiful world. This creates a sense of juxtaposition and contrast, as the beauty of the world is juxtaposed against the transient nature of life. Martin seems to be saying that despite the inevitable end that awaits us all, life is beautiful and meaningful in its passing.

The repetition of the line "All that we've fought for, homes, places we've grown" emphasises the idea of fighting for something that is ultimately temporary. It suggests that everything we have built may one day crumble and fall apart. However, the repetition of the line "We live in a beautiful world" creates a sense of hope and reminds us to appreciate the fleeting beauty of life.

The final lines, "Oh all that I know, there's nothing here to run from, cause yeah everybody here's got somebody to lean on" suggest that despite the inevitability of death, there is comfort in knowing that we are not alone. We all have people in our lives to lean on for support and comfort as we navigate the journey of life.

sinking like stones,
All that we fought for,
Homes,

All of us are done for.

We live in a beautiful world,

All that we fought for,
And homes,
places we've gone,
All of us are done for.

There's nothing here to run from,
'Cause yeah, everybody here's got somebody to lean on

The pictures of nature and landscapes go with the song but I think the real greatness of the song is the fact that you can be in any situation and really feel the beauty of the world. This song speaks to me on a different level than most because it fits any situation I'm in, whether I'm depressed or happy.

Dispite all the hardships, challenges, and stress that the world throws at me, it sends me some of the best moments of my life, the best scenery i could ever hope to see, and best of all some of the greatest friends i could ever hope to have. We truely do live in a beautiful world.
