Don Quixote
Coldplay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oooooh, eeh!
Oooooh, eeh, oooh!
Ooooh, eh!

So we left La Mancha,
Headed out for higher plains
Me and Sancho Panza
Looking for adventure,
Rosinante at the reigns,
To the windmills answer,

You'll never be lonely
You'll never be loney ever again

You'll never be lonely
You'll never be lonely again.

I heard you never get wet in Spanish Rain

So they sent the doctor
For examining my brain

Said : "He's not too clever"

When the world, when the world just seems
A little bit too cruel
Gonna leave it better
Make one better . Hey!

So tell that princess
Tell that princess right down the train
Tell that princess : She'll never be lonely again

I heard you never get wet in Spanish Rain

Ooooh, eh!
Oooooh, eh, oo-oh....
Oooooh eh

I heard you never get wet in Spanish Rain...

Overall Meaning

The song Don Quixote by Coldplay is an ode to adventure and the spirit of never giving up even when times get tough. The song takes cues from Miguel de Cervantes' novel Don Quixote, where the titular character leaves his mundane life behind to live out his fantasies and dreams. The lyrics of the song recount the journey of the singer and his sidekick Sancho Panza as they leave La Mancha for greener pastures, riding on their faithful steed Rosinante. The adventure that ensues involves tilting at the windmills, which Quixote believes to be giants, and ultimately realizing that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination.

The song goes on to highlight the fact that sometimes the world can be a cruel place, but that should not be a deterrent to keep moving forward. The singer believes that it is his duty to leave the world a better place than he found it, and he will do everything in his power to make that happen. The lyrics end with a message of hope and encouragement, with the singer telling a princess that she will never be lonely again, drawing from the belief that Spanish rain cannot make you wet.

Overall, the song Don Quixote is a beautiful tribute to the human spirit of adventure and the determination to keep going even when the going gets tough.

@Mham yeah thats what i said lmao

Mham

@griffy this is a lot better than infinity sign. infinity sign doesn't even have lyrics lmao

griffy

Infinity Sign off their new album is a reimagined version of this track... Unfortunately the original is much better though, in my honest opinion.

Flora Stolzenburg

Plus they didn’t invent the ole part

BAGA1990

other than the "Ole" part it's not the same at all. The key, rhythm, lyrics, and most importantly (for me at least) guitar melody are nothing alike.

Una canción muy hermosa, como es posible que no la conociera, creo que nunca terminare de sorprenderme con las joyas escondidas que tiene Coldplay, por cierto, esa torre que aparece se me hace conocida jajajaja me parece haberla visto antes

this song brings so many memories... I remember the 8th grade, 7 years ago, when I first heard about Don Quixote from my literature teacher. She said that a well educated person should read Don Quixote no matter what. I borrowed the book from my relatives. Then the story began... Don Quixote is one of my favourite characters. Yeah he imagined windmills and generally would end up in funny situations because of his behavioir, but that's not important. He was one of the strongest characters with strong will in his heart to fight for justice and protect beloved people, the unbreakable soul which would fight in any situation no matter what people thought about it, would push himself hard to reach the goal. I lack that characteristic now and I wish I had it... Four years ago my literature teacher died... I will always be thankful to her for everything and this song makes me travel back at the literature lesson, where the teacher is introducing Don Quixote...

I recently read the book in my 11th grade humanities class, I love that book. I will pray for your literature teacher's soul!

I had the chance to hear this song live. Argentina 2010! Great show!
