After independently releasing an extended play, Safety (1998), Coldplay signed with Parlophone in 1999. The band's debut album, Parachutes (2000), included their breakthrough single "Yellow" and received a Brit Award for British Album of the Year, a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and a Mercury Prize nomination. Their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), won the same accolades and included "Clocks", which earned a Grammy Award for Record of the Year. In 2005, they released X&Y; the album was marked by a troubled production and various delays, completing what the band considered a trilogy as well. Coldplay's fourth effort, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and their first Album of the Year nomination, while its title track was the first British group song to reach number-one in the United Kingdom and United States simultaneously in the 21st century. Both X&Y and Viva la Vida were the best-selling albums of their respective years, topping the charts in more than 30 countries each.
Since then, Coldplay further diversified their sound with the subsequent releases Mylo Xyloto (2011), Ghost Stories (2014), A Head Full of Dreams (2015), Everyday Life (2019) and Music of the Spheres (2021). Each album presented a unique theme and added new musical styles to the band's original repertoire, including electronica, ambient, pop, R&B, funk, classical, jazz fusion, and progressive rock. They are also known for "euphoric" live performances, which NME said are when the band "come alive and make the most sense". To celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2018, a career-spanning documentary directed by Mat Whitecross was premiered at selected cinemas, featuring previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage.
With 100 million albums sold worldwide, Coldplay are the most successful band of the 21st century and one of the best-selling music acts of all time. According to Fuse, they are also the sixth-most awarded group in history. Other notable achievements include the seventh-highest-grossing tour of all time, three of the 50 highest-selling albums ever in the United Kingdom, the most number-one records in the country without ever missing the top, most nominations and wins for a band in Brit Awards history, and becoming the first British group to debut at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. Coldplay are considered one of the most influential bands of the 21st century as well, with Forbes describing them as the standard for the current alternative scene. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included A Rush of Blood to the Head on their "200 Definitive Albums" list and the single "Yellow" is part of their "Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" exhibition for being one of the most successful and important recordings in the industry. In spite of their popularity and impact, Coldplay have earned a reputation as polarizing music icons.

Everything Is Lost

Saw there was one for every day
With the good ones on my shoulders
I drove the other ones away
So if you ever feel neglected
And if you think that all is lost
I'll be counting up my demons, yeah
When you thought that it was over
You could feel it all around
And everybody's out to get you
Don't you let it drag you down
'Cause if you ever feel neglected
And if you think that all is lost
I'll be counting up my demons, yeah
Hoping everything's not lost
If you ever feel neglected
If you think that all is lost
I'll be counting up my demons, yeah
Hoping everything's not lost
Singing out oh, oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Everything's not lost
So come on, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
And everything's not lost
Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
And everything's not lost
Come on, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
Come on, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
And everything's not lost
Sing out, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
And everything's not lost
Come on, yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Sing out, yeah
And everything's not lost
Now I never meant to do you wrong
That's what I came here to say
But if I was wrong, then I'm sorry
I don't let it stand in our way
'Cause my head just aches when I think of
The things that I shouldn't have done
But life is for living, we all know
And I don't want to live it alone
Sing out, ah ah
Sing ah ah ah
And just sing ah ah ah ah ah
The lyrics to Coldplay's "Everything's Not Lost" convey a message of hope and resilience. The opening lines speak of counting demons, which could be interpreted as one's troubles or inner demons. The singer acknowledges that they have their fair share of struggles, but they also have good things going for them. With the power of positive thinking, the singer is able to banish the negative and focus on the good. The phrase "I drove the other ones away" implies an active effort on the part of the singer to overcome their struggles.
The chorus speaks to a sense of neglect and the feeling that all is lost. The singer reminds the listener that they are not alone in their struggles, and that they will be there counting their own demons, hoping that everything will not be lost. This serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder that no matter how hard things get, there is always a chance for redemption and renewal.
The bridge of the song takes a more apologetic tone. The singer acknowledges the mistakes they have made and seeks forgiveness. They do not want their past actions to stand in the way of a brighter future. This sense of humbleness and contrition adds depth and emotional complexity to the song's message.
Overall, "Everything's Not Lost" is a song about perseverance, belief in oneself, and hope in the face of adversity. It is a reminder that even when things seem bleak, there is always a chance for redemption and renewal.

This song got me through September 2020, the worst month of my life. I lost so many people unexpectedly all in the same week and just felt so broken. I was failing school and two of my childhood pets died as well.
I promise it gets better. I know everyone says that, but you have to trust and believe it yourself. I didn’t believe it for the longest time. Sometimes it feels like you’ve been waiting for years for life to look up. Even if you have been waiting for years, just look back at how strong you’ve been and realize that you can do it, and it is worth every bit you’ve put into it. I can’t offer you perfect personal advice, it’s not that easy. Everyone has to figure their purpose out on their own. Nobody is going to do it for you. Especially when they’re on their own path as well. I can try to help, but I only know so much. And I still regret things, and I still have plenty of battles to come. And I know that life is going to get me down again eventually. It’s inevitable for all of us. After all, we’re only human. Figuring out your purpose is the hardest thing you’ll ever do, finding the meaning of your life and all. But you aren’t alone. You have all of these people pushing you along the way and passing on their wisdom so that one day you can do the same.
You need to give yourself more credit. Just look around you.
You’re not alone.
Reach out to someone. There are so many people just waiting for you to talk to them so they can help, because they know how it feels to be in the exact situation.
Stop thinking you have to fix everything by yourself.
And remember, there are plenty who have it worse than you right now.
There is hope.
Everything’s Not Lost. <3
If anyone needs someone to talk to I am here as a friend. :)
God bless, Jesus loves you and so do I.

I know people have said this before, but Coldplay truly helped me fight my depression. I felt so lost. I had lost everything. My friends. I was all alone. One night I had enough. I was angry and sad, and I decided to just play some music for no reason, even though I didn't want to. Then this song was the first to come on. It started to catch me, with hope. Then when it broke into its guitar solo, the best feeling swept over me.Tears of joy swept through me. I had hope. As all those happy memories came flooding back. The songs meaning sang louder than words can describe it for me

can't wait for the Superbowl, having coldplay playing at half time will give the best band in the world an even bigger audience, if that's at all possible, this band save my life and I'm so happy for them.
@jrodproductionstudios9587
+christopher carter I know I'm excited too, even though my team isn't in it. This band helps a lot of people, they really need more credit
@christophercarter1727
+Jared LaVoie indeed. I was so depressed when my girlfriend broke up with me and everything not lost is why I'm now over her
@lilianajimenezjofre7676

+liliana jimenez jofre it's crazy how much music can really do for you
@guiletheme3
Honestly I am a total hardcore/punk/metalhead but Parachutes has been my guilty go to for well over a decade, regardless of my opinion on their later work this album is fucking phenomenal and this finale is perfection.
@raysugarbelly258
As a fellow guy who has Coldplay albums (and Keane too, to be fair) in his playlist, next to the heavy punk and metal(core) music, and there is no guilt in listening to/enjoying it!
@kabobollomusic
Damn same bro
@patriot1151
I totally agree, I am a Metalhead as well and love Coldplay first 4 albums, not really a fan of their new sound.
