After independently releasing an extended play, Safety (1998), Coldplay signed with Parlophone in 1999. The band's debut album, Parachutes (2000), included their breakthrough single "Yellow" and received a Brit Award for British Album of the Year, a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and a Mercury Prize nomination. Their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), won the same accolades and included "Clocks", which earned a Grammy Award for Record of the Year. In 2005, they released X&Y; the album was marked by a troubled production and various delays, completing what the band considered a trilogy as well. Coldplay's fourth effort, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and their first Album of the Year nomination, while its title track was the first British group song to reach number-one in the United Kingdom and United States simultaneously in the 21st century. Both X&Y and Viva la Vida were the best-selling albums of their respective years, topping the charts in more than 30 countries each.
Since then, Coldplay further diversified their sound with the subsequent releases Mylo Xyloto (2011), Ghost Stories (2014), A Head Full of Dreams (2015), Everyday Life (2019) and Music of the Spheres (2021). Each album presented a unique theme and added new musical styles to the band's original repertoire, including electronica, ambient, pop, R&B, funk, classical, jazz fusion, and progressive rock. They are also known for "euphoric" live performances, which NME said are when the band "come alive and make the most sense". To celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2018, a career-spanning documentary directed by Mat Whitecross was premiered at selected cinemas, featuring previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage.
With 100 million albums sold worldwide, Coldplay are the most successful band of the 21st century and one of the best-selling music acts of all time. According to Fuse, they are also the sixth-most awarded group in history. Other notable achievements include the seventh-highest-grossing tour of all time, three of the 50 highest-selling albums ever in the United Kingdom, the most number-one records in the country without ever missing the top, most nominations and wins for a band in Brit Awards history, and becoming the first British group to debut at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. Coldplay are considered one of the most influential bands of the 21st century as well, with Forbes describing them as the standard for the current alternative scene. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included A Rush of Blood to the Head on their "200 Definitive Albums" list and the single "Yellow" is part of their "Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" exhibition for being one of the most successful and important recordings in the industry. In spite of their popularity and impact, Coldplay have earned a reputation as polarizing music icons.

Coldplay Lyrics

Everyone must find a place
Give me time and give me space
Give me real don't give me fake
Give me strength reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Give me time give us a kiss
Tell me your own politik
And open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Give me one, 'cause one is best
In confusion, confidence
Give me peace of mind and trust
Don't forget the rest of us
Give me strength reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Wounds that heal and cracks that fix
Tell me all your politik
And open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Just open up your eyes
But give me love over, love over, love over this, ah
And give me love over, love over, love over this, ah
The song "Politik" by Coldplay is a call to action for people to speak up and take control of their lives. The first verse encourages individuals to ask for what they need, which is portrayed through the lines "Give me time and give me space," and "Give me real, don't give me fake." The following line, "Give me strength reserve control," suggests that one should have a sense of self-awareness and personal power in order to achieve their goals.
The chorus of "open up your eyes" is a plea for people to be aware and alert, rather than letting the world pass them by. The second verse again emphasizes the importance of personal strength, but this time in the context of personal relationships: "Give me peace of mind and trust, don't forget the rest of us." The final line, "Tell me all your politik," asks for individuals to share their beliefs and values, in order to create a more connected and compassionate world.
Overall, "Politik" urges listeners to take action and not be passive in their lives, by being authentic, self-aware, and engaged with the world around them.

@@wills1206 Well I can understand that. Coldplay’s first 3 albums are among Coldplay’s most resonating music for me.
I think Coldplay’s peak was from like 1998 - 2008 resonating wise, but I think their lyrics did get more creative though I will say.
Initially I wasn’t the biggest fan of Viva and Mylo as well, I just cherished their first 3 masterpiece albums, and thought that anything after X&Y was under par for Coldplay standards, but over time Viva and Mylo did start to grow on me, and I came to appreciate them a lot more than I used to do.
I just wasn’t used to the new sound that Coldplay were now encapsulating, but as I started to diversify I didn’t just focus on the song having a good sound pallet or sounding good sonically anymore, but more so of the lyrics as well and all of the above. Their newer music obviously started to become more mainstream and cater towards a new audience which is what a lot of people didn’t like and stopped listening to Coldplay, but I think that was also just part of Coldplay’s evolution as well which a lot of people don’t realise. Chris said that he never wanted any of their albums to sound the same, so I do think they definitely experimented with a lot of different sounds and just tried to make art in all shapes and forms.
Viva is Coldplay’s most monumental album imo, and is lyrically their best, but instrumentally it goes to AROBTTH for me. Point is, their are so many variables and aspects with every little thing
that Coldplay never put all their eggs in one basket. They were never one size fits all, they just always kept true to themselves, but of course they capitalised on the success of their more mainstream sounding music, but it’s how they also remained relevant after all this time as well.
Everyday Life was a breath of fresh air after having Ghost Stories & AHFOD back to back though. Definitely my favourite album since Viva. That album went back to the essence of the old Coldplay and definitely had that old Coldplay magic in some of the songs.
However their latest album Music of the Spheres is easily my least favourite Coldplay album that left me quite dissatisfied and disappointed I have to say, so I hope that their next album will be a huge rebound with the best of all their magic from all their best albums, as I believe that Coldplay are only doing 1 more album in 2025 and then will just be touring.

Imagine it’s 2002 and you just bought this album after listening to Parachutes, and the first thing you hear is this.

I don't have to imagine. I was 14 and so excited for this album! I remember hearing this song and knowing the album was going to be amazing, but it was even better than I'd hoped and got me through a lot of shit times.

this is the most underrated Coldplay song. absolutely amazing
@MusicLover-kz6rc
This is just one of the many underrated Coldplay songs, but this would have to be the most underrated yeah
@jpbdude4223
@@MusicLover-kz6rc I’d say twisted Logic just edges it by the length of a dogs balls after being cut off personally but this is by far their best.
@MusicLover-kz6rc
@@jpbdude4223 Nah man. Your entitled to your opinion, but imo Politik is the best song of all time objectively. Now Twisted Logic is really underrated also don’t get me wrong, but it’s nowhere near as good as Politik, so Politik is the most underrated Coldplay song.
