Your Love Means Everything Part 2
Coldplay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I slipped away last night
Took me away from sight and the place I know

All crushed upon my skin
This mess I put you in and the punch I thrown

It was a strange reaction
For someone like you to remain on side

And in a chain reaction
I was down and calling for a place to hide

I saw a broken arm
Machines will all break down in the way I know

Mended and all made clean
I saw up on the screen all the stones I throw

It was a strange reaction
For someone like you to remain so sure

And in a chain reaction
I dissolve and break and then away I crawl

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Coldplay's song Your Love Means Everything Part 2 are reflective and introspective, detailing a moment of forgiveness and self-reflection on the part of the singer. The singer admits to causing harm to their loved one, with the line "This mess I put you in and the punch I thrown." Despite this, the loved one remains on their side, which the singer finds to be a "strange reaction" given their actions.

The second verse mentions a "broken arm" and "machines" breaking down, possibly alluding to the idea of impermanence and how everything eventually deteriorates. However, the verse ends on a positive note with the revelation that the stones the singer threw have been "mended and all made clean."

The song ends with the singer "dissolv[ing] and break[ing] and then away [they] crawl." This can be interpreted as a metaphorical purification or cleansing, with the singer shedding their old, negative habits and moving forward.

Overall, Your Love Means Everything Part 2 presents a touching narrative about taking accountability for one's actions, owning up to one's mistakes, and striving towards self-betterment.

I had this on an old MP3 player when I was 20 and it got me through so much. I’m 32 now and stronger than ever :)

I was literally just thinking this, same age, had it on mine as well at 20. Cheers

I'm not sure if I had it on my mp3 player or my phone, but I'll be 30 in a couple weeks and I remember listening to this on my phone at least (I think it was a windows phone) before I went to work at Burger King on the weekends in high school at 4am with 3 or 4 hours of sleep. Crazy time and yes, this song definitely got me through those mornings.

As has been previously mention, this is not by Coldplay, it's by Faultline (with Chris Martin on vocals... obviously) Either way, it's an amazing song and Chris's voice is perfect for it.
