Midnight
Coldplay (www.DESCARGASMIX.com) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the darkness before the dawn
In the swirling of this storm
When I'm rolling with the punches and hope is gone
Leave a light, a light on

Millions of miles from home
In the swirling swimming on
When I'm rolling with the thunder but bleed from thorns
Leave a light, a light on
Leave a light, a light on

Leave a light, a light on
Leave a light, a light on

In the darkness before the dawn
In the darkness before the dawn

Leave a light, a light on
Leave a light, a light on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Coldplay's song "Midnight" are a poignant reminder of the hope that can be found in the darkest moments. The opening verse, "In the darkness before the dawn,/In the swirling of this storm," sets the scene for a difficult time. The singer is rolling with the punches and filled with despair, but they are asking for a light to be left on, a symbol of hope to cling to in the night.

The second verse continues this theme, with the singer feeling millions of miles away from home, lost in a "swirling swimming on." They are facing thunder and thorns, but still have the presence of mind to ask for a light to guide them through. The repetition of the refrain "Leave a light, a light on" reinforces the idea that even when everything else is uncertain, there can be comfort found in a small flame that never goes out.

Overall, "Midnight" is a powerful song about resilience and the importance of hope in times of darkness. The music further reinforces this message, with a haunting, almost otherworldly sound that evokes both the despair and the awe-inspiring beauty of our most difficult moments.

THIS is the direction Coldplay needs to go in. Man... this is absolutely beautiful.

"In the darkness
Before the dawn
In the swelling
Of this storm
Running round and with apologies
And hope is gone
Leave a light, a light on"

Those lyrics.

@maisboyfriend

An unreleased track by Jon Hopkins.

He explains: "the idea for ‘midnight’ appeared back in 2011 when i was working late at the studio with chris and rik one night.

i played chris this unfinished idea for an ambient track i’d written called ‘the fourth state part ii’ and chris was really into it – he grabbed a mic, rik set up a vocoder patch, and the basic vocal idea was jammed pretty much straight away."

He then proceeded to remix his own track.

"i liked the idea of doing a more upbeat, hypnotic version for my remix – something that could work in clubs as well as on record."

This song makes me feel floating in the space, the universe in front of my eyes.

When I was in college, we raided the tech rental room and rented a projector, set it up in our dormroom, and would play trance with the winamp visualizer running. This would be a perfect song for it. Weed is obviously what we didn't use to accompany it, because we were very responsible.

Have you heard "O (Fly On)" by Coldplay? It has a very similar awe inspiring yet tranquil nature.
