Start The Car
Cole Jude Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah, yeah, uh-huh
Well I'm tired of the pressure
So tired of the pace
Just wanna grab you baby
And get out of this place
I got no chance of making it
Working downtown
Just walking slow and talking low
And tired of going down, down, down

Start the car, we gotta move
This ain't no living, this ain't no groove
It's been a long hard road
Come on baby (ooh baby)
Let's drive it home
Start the car

We started out for paradise
But this ain't no promised land
This ain't no kind of living for an honest working man
Well there's people dying on the streets
Sure don't make the news, ooh yeah
While others living up on the hill
Singing the white boy blues

Whoa, start the car, we gotta move
This ain't no living (no living)
This ain't no groove
The city's rich, or dirt poor
But somewhere waiting (ooh yeah)
There's something more
Start the car

Well we're going out with dignity
We're going out with style
Gonna lay down that hammer baby
Make our own road across the miles
'Cause I can't take this town one more day

Whoa, start the car, we gotta move
This ain't no living (no living)
This ain't no groove
The city's rich, or dirt poor
But somewhere waiting (somewhere waiting)
There's gotta be something more

Start the car, yeah
It's been a long hard road
Well come on baby, let's drive it home
Start the car

Ooh, start the car
Ooh, start the car
Ooh, start the car

Mabeline, why can't you be true
Start the car

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cole Jude's song "Start The Car" speak to a feeling of dissatisfaction with the current state of life and a desire for something more. The singer, tired of the pressure and pace of city life, wants to escape with his lover, leaving behind the struggle of making ends meet and the harsh realities of poverty and inequality. He longs for something better, for paradise, for a promised land, but recognizes that this is not it. The chorus repeats the call to action to "start the car" and leave, driving toward a new and hopefully better future.

The lyrics convey a sense of urgency and frustration, and touch on themes of inequality and social injustice. There is a recognition that while some people live lives of wealth and privilege, others are struggling merely to survive, and that this reality is often overlooked or ignored by those in power. The song speaks to a universal desire for a better life, and the frustration of feeling trapped by circumstance.

Overall, "Start The Car" is a song about hope and the desire for change. It is a call to action for those who feel trapped or dissatisfied with their current circumstances, urging them to take control of their lives and make a change. The song is a powerful reminder that we all have the power to shape our own destinies, and that even in the face of adversity, we can find a way forward.

Years ago, I wrote to Mr. Cole for publicity stills for my disabled son - not only did we get a personal reply, but Jude made certain to personally sign everything to Gannon; his wife followed up with a nice note and more items. Gannon turns 24 today, still plays all of his Jude Cole music, and still has all of the photos/posters on his wall. =) Nice, talented gentleman that I wish was more appreciated in his field.

Neat. Bless your hearts. I agree. Might not of ever discovered him if it wouldn't been for a passing of neighborhood gentleman. I went to the auction and for 20 bucks walked away with a lot of music that was never air played. Had know idea the fellow down the block played guitar and listened to some kick music. Glad you like him
