The Very Thought Of You
Cole Natalie Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do
I'm living in a kind of daydream
I'm happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me that's everything
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
In Cole Nat King's song "The Very Thought of You", the lyrics describe the powerful effect that the person being sung about has on the singer. The mere thought of being with this person is enough to make the singer completely forget about everything else and live in a daydream-like state. He mentions that he forgets about doing the little ordinary things that everyone should do, simply because the thought of being with this person brings him so much joy.
The singer then goes on to describe the longing he feels for this person, and how time seems to slow down when he's not near them. The person he sings about has such an impact on him that he sees their face in every flower and their eyes in the stars above. To him, the very thought of this person is everything.
Overall, the lyrics speak to the power of love and how it can completely consume someone's thoughts and actions. The singer is so entranced by this person that they become his everything, and the mere thought of them is enough to make him happy.

Between her voice and her looks how could you not love her? The world was truely a far better place with her in it. It's a far emptier place without her here. Her and her Dad were so great.โค๏ธ๐๐ซ๐ซ

The few times I saw Natalie in concert, she often opened with this song. She would start singing this song off stage, but she doesn't make an entrance after she sang a line or two. It was captivating!

Damn, what a fine cover. I can't decide which is my fave, this or her father's cover.
