The Zombies disbanded. In the early 70's, Blunstone re-emerged as a solo act, and scored several major hits. The music featured rhythm guitar now and ranged from string arranged melodies, to rock, to American folk. The Zombies were never far away; for instance, "Andorra", written by co-Zombies Rod Argent and White, is a remake of "Time of the Season".
"One Year" was his first solo album.
In the late 70's Colin lent his voice to The Alan Parsons Project, a logical progression from his solo work, as can be heard in a song such as "Old and Wise".
Colin is currently touring and recording again with Rod Argent, another founder member of the Zombies, performing both new material and hits from their joint and solo careers.
Don't Let The Darkness Touch You

To leave you in the dark
Like an island in an endless sea
A flame without a spark
And somewhere in the past you dreamed
You'd fallen on the truth
But the truth can cut you like a knife
Oh Donna the tears that you're crying
Can wash away the sadness tonight
You know you're gonna have to keep trying
Until you see the first light
Don't let the darkness touch you
It can leave it's mark
On a hungry heart
Don't let the darkness touch you
When all hope is gone
Just keep on holding on
You're not the only one to feel
The end has finally come
Just because you're sleeping on your own
Seems like everything's gone wrong
But where there's life there's hope you see
Your time will come again
Hold on to me before you fall
Let me help you light the way
Oh Donna the tears that you're crying
Can wash away the sadness tonight
You know you're gonna have to keep trying
Until you see the first light
Don't let the darkness touch you
It can leave it's mark
On a hungry heart
Don't let the darkness touch you
When all hope is gone
Just keep on holding on
And someday soon you'll wake to find
That you've left the past behind
And you never really needed what you wanted
And the cage that held you fast
Was never really built to last
The time will come to spread your wings and fly away
Don't let the darkness touch you
It can leave it's mark
On a hungry heart
Don't let the darkness touch you
When all hope is gone
Just keep on holding on
Don't let the darkness touch you
The lyrics to Colin Blunstone's song, Don't Let The Darkness Touch You, are a poignant reflection on the difficult times that we all face at one time or another in life. The first verse speaks to the feelings of being left alone and isolated, lacking the spark of hope and inspiration that often keep us going. The second verse reflects on how the truth can be painful and can cut us deeply, even as it illuminates our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
The chorus, addressed to Donna, is an admonition not to give up or succumb to despair. Rather, it urges her to keep trying, to keep moving forward and pushing through the darkness, and to hold onto the hope that things will get better. The song acknowledges that we all experience times when we feel lost and hopeless, but it reminds us that these times are temporary and that there is always a way through them if we stay strong and don't let the darkness overwhelm us.
Overall, the song is a powerful message of encouragement, a reminder that we are all capable of overcoming the darkest moments, and that we can find hope and joy even in the midst of despair. It's a call to be strong, to hold on tight, and to never let the darkness touch us.
