The Zombies disbanded. In the early 70's, Blunstone re-emerged as a solo act, and scored several major hits. The music featured rhythm guitar now and ranged from string arranged melodies, to rock, to American folk. The Zombies were never far away; for instance, "Andorra", written by co-Zombies Rod Argent and White, is a remake of "Time of the Season".
"One Year" was his first solo album.
In the late 70's Colin lent his voice to The Alan Parsons Project, a logical progression from his solo work, as can be heard in a song such as "Old and Wise".
Colin is currently touring and recording again with Rod Argent, another founder member of the Zombies, performing both new material and hits from their joint and solo careers.
If I Said
Colin Blunstone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Would it be so bad
Why should it change
All that we had
You tell me, he only
Hurt you once before
Chorus
How could he stand to see you sad
Why does he treat a love so bad
If I say don't see him
Would it be so wrong
What does it take
To see him gone
If only you could be
Strong enough to see
That he doesn't matter to you
You should be making other plans
So I feel I have to say
Don't go and throw you life away
He takes, you give
He leaves you lonely
He makes it hard to listen to me
Chorus
When he takes, you give
It leaves you lonely
He makes it hard to listen to me
If I said I loved you, would it be so bad
The lyrics of Colin Blunstone's song "If I Said" explore the delicate subject of a love triangle. The singer is in love with the woman who is involved with someone else, and he is trying to convince her to leave her partner. He questions why she is in a relationship with someone who hurts her and treats love so badly. He expresses his love for her and encourages her to be strong enough to see that she deserves better than the man who is causing her pain.
The chorus of the song poetically asks why the woman's partner would treat a love so badly and how he could stand to see her sad. The lyrics suggest that the woman is afraid of being alone, but the singer is there to support her and urges her not to throw her life away by staying with someone who doesn't deserve her.
In summary, "If I Said" is a song about the complexity of emotions involved in loving someone who is involved with someone else. The singer expresses his love for the woman and encourages her to see that she deserves better than the man who is causing her pain.
