Seventh Heaven
Colin Blunstone Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

These city lights don't excite me like they used to do
As pleasures fading fast
Forgotten memories keep returning me to you
An innocence that's passed

Hanging on to a distant dream
And it feels so strong until finally
It seems every road brings me back to you
The promises we made still holding true

Taking the night to seventh heaven
No one has loved this way before
Waking the touch of love together
Now and forever more

Inside the heart of the night, moving so close to me
No need to be afraid
Always believing if somethings really meant to be
No one cam turn away

Now at last anyone can see
How the light inside always finds the key
And this slave of life finally breaks free
Opening the doors of love for me

Taking the night to seventh heaven
No one has loved this way before
Waking the touch of love together
Now and forever more

First to be there with you
The second the dream comes true
A third heaven's reaching out
At fourth heaven never doubts
Fifth heaven was within
A sixth sense of being in
Seventh heaven

Taking the night to seventh heaven
No one has loved this way before
Waking the touch of love together
Now and forever more

Overall Meaning

In Colin Blunstone's Seventh Heaven, the singer expresses their disillusionment with the bright city lights that no longer excite or thrill them as they used to. Instead, the pleasures of the past keep returning them to their former lover, an innocence that has passed away. Even they're holding on to a 'distant dream' and know it seems impossible, it still feels strong, and every road leads them back to their ex-partner, as the promises they made still hold true.

The second stanza seems to indicate that the singer and their ex-partner have reconciled and are taking the night to 'seventh heaven,' where no one has ever loved this way before. Inside the heart of the night, we witness the reunion of their love, moving so very close to each other, and there's no need to be afraid. And finally, everyone can see that the light inside finds the key and that their love will make the singer break free from the chains of life.

The song is about reconciliation: coming back to someone you love and finding happiness and peace in them alone. No matter how much the city lights dazzle, they can't replace the comfort that comes from knowing someone deeply. It speaks to the power of love, reunited and never has been loved or touched like that before, as it gives you a warm feeling to stay forever with your partner on this "seventh heaven".
