December
Collective Soul Lyrics

Contagious as you think I am
Just tilt my sun towards your domain
Your cup runneth over again
Don't scream about, don't think aloud
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't worry 'bout, don't speak of doubt
Why follow me to higher ground?
Lost as you swear I am
Don't throw away your basic needs
Ambiance and vanity
Don't scream about, don't think aloud
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't worry 'bout, don't speak of doubt
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't scream about, don't think aloud
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't worry 'bout, don't speak of doubt
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
December promise you gave unto me
December whispers of treachery
December clouds are now covering me
December songs no longer I sing
December promise you gave unto me
December whispers of treachery
December clouds are now covering me
December songs no longer I sing
Don't scream about, don't think aloud
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't worry 'bout, don't speak of doubt
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't scream about, don't think aloud
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
Don't worry 'bout, don't speak of doubt
Turn your head now, baby, just spit me out
The song December by Collective Soul seems to talk about a person struggling to maintain a relationship with someone who finds him/her 'contagious'. It seems like the singer is warning his/her partner not to put themselves in danger by being with them as he/she might harm them. The line "Why drink the water from my hand?" signifies that the singer is asking his/her partner why she is willing to take the risk and be with him/her when she is aware of the danger. The line "Just tilt my sun towards your domain, Your cup runneth over again" means that the partner has given their all, and the singer has again taken everything while knowing that he/she is not good for them.
The singer seems almost resigned to the fact that they are not good for their partner, even asking them to not mention their doubts and just 'spit them out'. The line "December promise you gave unto me, December whispers of treachery, December clouds are now covering me, December songs no longer I sing" hints that the singer feels like it's the end of the relationship, promising that was given to him/her in December seems to be broken. In the end, the singer is telling their partner to spit them out as it's for their well-being.

I hit send to fast. BTW I'm 64 and my grown kids don't get it. I get this "Mom, turn it down!" Nope! Play my music loud and proud! It's 2024 now . These songs remind me of my youth and the awesome times I had. We outgrow our young selves but not the music!
@Crazy4nitro
How lucky we were to have grown up in the 90’s and experienced this great time in music
@rabbitrabbit1243
I was lucky to grow up in 60 an 70s
An there were a few groups in the nineties that I could listen to .
But now there is total rubbish

born in 63. had 2 older brothers serve overseas, in war. taught me the real classics. grew up in the late '70s with KISS, etc. served my time in the early 80's with GUNS N ROSES, etc. worked and partied through the 90's. then the music started to turn to shit. today's "music" does not have an original bone in it. shame.

As someone who was born after 2000, you don't even fucking know how lucky you are.
