Game Over
Color Theory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're so kind, you're so sweet
I'm inclined to sweep you right off your feet
You may blush, but it's true
You deserve the best and I deserve to give it to you
To that end I've the means
Born of years perfecting intricate schemes
If it works out this once
We'll be sipping margaritas in a matter of months

Is it risky, maybe
Is it legal, maybe not
When your middle name is danger
There's no room for second thoughts
If they catch me it's game over
If they don't then we're home free

Is it theft? Well not quite
Just financial sleight of hand when done right
Take a look in the garage
It's equipped for simple hacking up to espionage
I'm discreet, I'm covert
And I promise that no one will get hurt
I've said all that I dare
To protect us both from jeopardy I'd better stop there

It's too late to turn back now
And high time to disappear
Our troubles will soon be past
So think of me fondly dear

If by some unlikely chance
I don't live to see this through

Remember me with a smile
I did all of it for you.

Overall Meaning

In "Game Over" by Color Theory, the singer portrays a character who is in love with their partner and is willing to do whatever it takes to provide them with the best life possible. The singer uses various methods to elevate the lifestyle of their partner but also admits to the risks associated with their actions. The singer is aware of the legal implications but justifies their actions as "financial sleight of hand when done right" and even equips the garage for espionage.

The chorus speaks of the possibility of getting caught, which would essentially signal game over for the couple. However, the singer believes in their schemes and assures their partner that they will soon be sipping margaritas once it all works out. Towards the end of the song, the singer admits to the risk that they have undertaken and how they have done it all for the sake of their loved one.

theres no doubt that there is some effects on the vocals. first time hearing this song, and i must say im loving the little quirky sequences and random samples at the end. i dont notice any issues with the vocal mixing

Color Theory

Thanks Tim! Just a preference thing on the vocals I guess. There's definitely reverb and slapback delay, and probably another delay or two. Some people just like them grittier, but I don't think that suits the song.

hey, love your music! but i think you should do a little more editing on your voice so that it fits in with the music better. maybe make it sound a little bit like a robot, or add some echos or something. it just sounds too "clean," like as if it was made for a disney movie or a guitar song.

i beg to differ (kindly,) as for me color theory reminds me of synthpop in 80s like yazoo, bronski beat, soft cell... etc where the vocals are very clear. so much retrowave and synth now has fx on vocals, so for many of us its nice to hear glitchy music like this but w vocals that are unaffected.

Color Theory

@ElectroTechno If you can get it into a Disney movie, I'll buy you dinner! Maybe take a listen to Extroverts at Play, which is a little grittier, or Living a Boy's Adventure Tale, which has vocoder (robot voice).
