Sonya… Read Full Bio ↴Colornoise are an experimental Noise Rock duo from Costa Rica.
Sonya Carmona (Guitar, vocals) and Alison Alvarado (Drums, vocals) serendipitously met whilst individually partaking in a local jam session at a café in 2009. Perusing music deeply, the duo’s concerted experimentation later saw them courageously select an unusual yet powerful configuration of guitar and drums. Colornoise thus saw its formal inception.
Catching the eye of Automata Records, the duo released their first eight-track LP ‘Fake Apocalypse’ with the Costa Rican Indie label in 2011. Later, in March of 2012 they release the single “Time".
Colornoise’s sound is an amalgamation of Noise Rock, Stoner Rock and Post-Punk that is high octane and dynamically vibrant. Their astute musicality, energetic performances compounded with an enigmatic stage presence, garnered much interest from the US based organisers of Costa Rica’s prime international music festival. Colornoise were hand-picked to share the stage with a host of international luminaries including Björk, the Flaming Lips and Skrillex at Festival Imperial 2012; cementing their reputation as one of Central America’s most distinguished bands.
During the month of August of 2012, Colornoise made their first trip to El Salvador and Guatemala as part of a Central American mini-tour, followed by an extensive tour of eight dates in 7 different cities of Brazil in September. In January 2013 they performed a live session for the London-based movement Sofar Sounds (Songs From a Room) and later in June they release the single “Button" after being officially invited to play at North by North East (NXNE) Festival in Toronto, Canada during that same month.
The band is currently working on the production of their second EP, expected to be released by August of 2013.

Colornoise Lyrics

places,
faces,
wanting to break,
we came to escape.
Did you cross the line?
Did you set the time?
Did you use your mind?
Scissors,
erasers,
seasons,
wanting to break,
we came to awake.
The lyrics to Colornoise's song Pieces highlights the human desire to break free from routine and monotony. The song begins with the repetition of three words; pieces, places, and faces, which possibly represent the various elements that make up a person's life. The artist then talks about an intense longing to break free from these elements, indicating the need for change and a desire to escape from the current situation.
The next few lines of the song suggest introspection and self-reflection. The questions posed in the lyrics; did you cross the line, did you set the time, do you feel alive, did you use your mind, may be interpreted as a call to action, urging listeners to assess their current state and make changes towards a more fulfilling life. The lyrics also seem to suggest the need to take charge of one's life fully and make conscious choices rather than merely existing.
The second stanza introduces the elements of scissors, erasers, and seasons, which may represent tools for change and the cyclical nature of life. The lyrics imply the need to make changes in different seasons of life and take action to awaken oneself from the monotony of routine.
Overall, the song encourages self-reflection and a conscious choice towards a more fulfilling life in challenging times like those we face today.
