Waves
Colourhaus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a wave of emotion in my heart tonight
Calling you
There's a little piece of heaven in the sky tonight
Breaking through
Like a rider on the storm
A feather tossed and torn
A veil that's never drawn
A love that would be worn on your face
On your face

We're living on tidal waves
Living in desperate days
Sail on, sail on
Living on vital waves
Looking for love hat saves
Sail on, sail on all these waves

There's an ocean of silence in my room tonight
Drowning me
There's a runaway dream in my heart tonight
Breaking free
Like a rider on the storm
A feather tossed and torn
A veil that's never drawn
A love that should be worn on your face
On your face

We're living on tidal waves

Living in desperate days
Sail on, sail on
Living on vital waves
Looking for love hat saves
Sail on, sail on all these waves

Sail on, sail on these waves
Sail on sail on these waves
Waves in the body
Waves in the soul
Waves in the rhythm of the love that we hold
Waves on the tide
Waves in the air
Waves that surround us everywhere
Waves in the mind
Waves in the hand
Waves of emotion like waves of sand
Waves, waves....

We're living on tidal waves
Living in desperate days
Sail on, sail on
Living on vital waves

Looking for love hat saves
Sail on, sail on all these waves

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Waves" by Colourhaus describe a sense of longing and desire, conveyed through the imagery of waves and the ocean. It's as if the singer is simultaneously being drowned by the silence in his room and lifted up by the idea of a little piece of heaven breaking through the sky. The lyrics continue to describe the contradictory and tumultuous nature of love, which can feel like being tossed around in a storm or wearing a veil that's never drawn. The hook of the song revolves around the idea of sailing through these emotional waves, whether they're tidal or vital, in search of love that can save us in these desperate days.

As the song progresses, the imagery of waves expands to include waves of the body, soul, love, tide, air, and emotion. It's as if waves are a metaphor for every possible way that we exist in the world, both internally and externally. The repetition of "Sail on, sail on all these waves" is both an exhortation to keep moving forward despite the challenges of life, and also an acknowledgement that waves will always be a part of our existence. The final repetition of "Waves, waves..." feels almost like a meditation on the nature of existence itself, as we are constantly buffeted by the waves of life.

Overall, "Waves" is a song that captures the complexity and beauty of our emotional lives, and reminds us that even in the midst of tumultuous times, we can still find a way to keep moving forward.

@mariegold3906

This is the soundtrack to my early teens. Wow so great to hear these songs again, brings back great memories.

@dusterbuster

Still one of my all time fav CDs. Innocent child led me to discover the rest of the CD. Feather In The Fire is my #1. I Would Walk The Earth. Stone Roses. Moving Mountains. We Talk To The Angels - starts slow- but worth the wait. Mid 90s. Top down. Hot July summers. Damn. Time flies. And it ain't coming back. But I have this CD. Thanks Sherri

@davidmarksberry5970

Bought this CD while in Germany in the early 90's. Still a great listen. If it doesn't make you think about the person you're currently with...... you're with the wrong person.

True story: one of my closest friends made me a mix tape back in 1994 that had Moving Mountains on it. I had no idea who this band was until I did a little digging...now that I've heard this whole album...I actually like it

@christaylor839

Thank you! A "lost" great album!

@denismedvedev8214

Thank you for this.

@dmitritobias

i used to have the cassette. one of the few albums that i could listen from beginning to end. all songs is just great. but the hit single is innocent child here, dunno anywhere else.

@carloscarabello7931

I agree on that one, but "I Would Walk the Earth" would be the 2nd if they went further

@dmitritobias

@@carloscarabello7931 agreed. but what i meant was that in my country, we all knew the song Innocent Child, it was very popular back then, played on radio stations and discoteques.
