Exit Eternity
Combichrist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When everyone's gone
And you're living forever
What's left to gain?

When you're all alone
And there is no heaven
There's no one else to blame
Eternity, eternity, exit
Eternity, exit
Endless, endless, endless, exit
Endless path, exit

No rope for a noose
No cliff to jump from
No bullets to ease your pain

An eternity alone
Waiting to die
No blood in the veins to drain
Eternity, eternity, exit
Eternity, exit
Endless, endless, endless, exit
Endless path, exit

Your life is a book
Of empty pages
Your story is written on your skin

All faded away
Impossible to read
Where did you begin

Where does it end
When there is no end?
Just an endless path

Where do we go?
Eternity alone
All love is gone

There's no one else, there's no one else, exit
There's no one else, there's no one else, exit
There's no one else, there's no one else, exit
Exit

You're wearing a crown
No kingdom to rule
Can't recall the last time you spoke

At least now out loud
The screams in your head
Where you still hear the dead

There's no one else, there's no one else, exit
There's no one else, there's no one else, exit

Where does it end
When there is no end?
Just an endless path

Where do we go?
Eternity alone
All love is gone

Where does it end
When there is no end?
Just an endless path (exit)

Where do we go?

Eternity alone
All love is gone

Overall Meaning

In “Exit Eternity”, Combichrist explores the theme of eternal life and its consequences. The lyrics paint a picture of a world where everyone is gone, and the singer is left alone to live forever. The song starts with a rhetorical question: Once you’ve got eternal life, what’s left to gain? The answer, of course, is nothing, as there is no more time left to achieve anything. The song then goes on to describe the loneliness and despair of an eternity spent without anyone to share it with.

The lyrics also delve into the idea that eternal life is not always a blessing. The singer is unable to end their life, as there is no rope, cliff or bullet to provide relief. The endlessness of life becomes a burden as they wait for death to come, but there is no blood left in the veins to drain. As they wear a crown with no kingdom to rule, they cannot recall the last time they spoke. All love is gone, and there is no one else left to blame.

The song ends with the repeated phrase “exit”, presenting the idea that the only way out of this endless cycle is to exit eternity. The question remains, however, where do we go? This song is a haunting exploration into the idea of eternal life and what it would truly mean for those who are left alone to live it.
