Retreat Hell Pt. 1
Combichrist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tonight I'm covering the city
in posters that yells "Fuck You"
Fuck your Politics, Opinions and Agenda
You try to fix my life
You don't have a fucking clue
The left can go sit on this finger
The right can go and sit on something even bigger
Too afraid of living, you have to belong
You got one shot at life
It's not easy to be strong

When you grab your life by the neck
Don't grab the card
Grab the whole fucking deck
who said you have to play fair
your parents, your teachers and how they got there
do what it please, you don't have to play
like your brother, just watch his back
and be there for each other
I don't care what you are
what body you're in
If you're being an asshole
get the fuck outta my way
There's too many isms
I don't care for either one
Why not try to be human and
Have some fucking fun

I don't care about your God, your gods or your goddess
but i respect that you believe
Now I'm trying to be honest
Fuck your views on immigration
and your generation revolution
We're all fucking immigrants of superhuman fusion
Now when i say "Super" I mean super fucked
Keep your door to your heart open
But keep your guns cocked

You're always busy bitching and complaining
and you say so are you
Yeah but it's true i can't hide it
I complain about fucking idiots like you

I don't blame the suits though
they are paying for the party
sure it could be better
but the party just got started
I celebrate life
the opportunities are few
I don't care what they expect
they can't tell me what to do
I don't know where we're going
but we're going there fast
So I'm staying at the party
as long as it last
I say fuck this world up the ass
If we're going to hell
We're flying first class
There is love but i doubt you can see it
Technically it's chemicals

But i doubt you can feel it
(Voicemail of some funny guy plays)

Overall Meaning

Combichrist's song "Retreat Hell Pt. 1" expresses the singer's frustration with the societal expectations and politics that dominate his life. In the first verse, he covers the city in posters that declare "Fuck You" to politics, opinions, and agendas. He believes that those who try to control his life don't have a clue, and he encourages his listeners to be themselves, rather than trying to fit in with their brothers or conform to societal expectations. The singer doesn't care about people's religions, genders, or political affiliations; what he does care about is having fun and celebrating life.

In the second verse, the singer continues to rail against conformity, encouraging his listeners to grab their lives by the neck and "grab the whole fucking deck." He feels that society has taught people to play fair, but they don't have to; they should do what pleases them, rather than copying their brothers. He doesn't care about people's views on immigration or their generation's revolution, believing that everyone is an immigrant of superhuman fusion in some way. The singer also acknowledges that he complains too, but he complains about "fucking idiots" like the people he is railing against, rather than society at large.

Overall, "Retreat Hell Pt. 1" is a call to arms for people to be themselves, have fun, and fuck societal expectations. The singer doesn't want to engage in politics or conform to any particular ideology. He just wants to live his life and have a good time while doing it.

Line by Line Meaning

Tonight I'm covering the city in posters that yells "Fuck You"
I am expressing my anger towards the political system and society's norms by posting posters all over the city.

Fuck your Politics, Opinions and Agenda You try to fix my life You don't have a fucking clue
I do not agree with your politics, opinions, and agenda, and I do not want you to try and fix my life because you do not have a clear understanding of what my life is like.

The left can go sit on this finger The right can go and sit on something even bigger
I express my dislike towards both the left and the right political ideologies, making a vulgar gesture towards them.

Too afraid of living, you have to belong You got one shot at life It's not easy to be strong
Being afraid to live your life the way you want just to fit in is not the right way to live. You only have one life, and it's not easy to be strong and go against societal norms.

When you grab your life by the neck Don't grab the card Grab the whole fucking deck who said you have to play fair your parents, your teachers and how they got there do what it please, you don't have to play like your brother, just watch his back and be there for each other
Instead of following a pre-defined path, grab life with both hands and take control of it completely. There is no need to play fair, as society's expectations of you are most likely inherited from your parents and teachers. You can do whatever you want without conforming to expected standards, as long as you support your sibling and take care of each other.

I don't care what you are what body you're in If you're being an asshole get the fuck outta my way
I do not care about your gender, race, etc., but if you are being rude or disrespectful, please avoid crossing my path.

There's too many isms I don't care for either one Why not try to be human and Have some fucking fun
There are too many 'isms' such as racism and sexism that divide society, and I do not appreciate any of them. Instead, why not just be human and enjoy life without letting our differences hold us back?

I don't care about your God, your gods or your goddess but i respect that you believe Now I'm trying to be honest Fuck your views on immigration and your generation revolution We're all fucking immigrants of superhuman fusion Now when i say "Super" I mean super fucked Keep your door to your heart open But keep your guns cocked
I do not care about your religion, but I can respect that you believe in something. However, I strongly disagree with your views on immigration and societal age differences. We are all immigrants from the same fusion of humanity, although the current situation is super messed up. While I keep an open heart, I will keep my guard up against potential threats.

You're always busy bitching and complaining and you say so are you Yeah but it's true i can't hide it I complain about fucking idiots like you
You are always complaining, and I acknowledge that I do too, but I can't help it when people like you act like idiots that need to be called out.

I don't blame the suits though they are paying for the party sure it could be better but the party just got started I celebrate life the opportunities are few I don't care what they expect they can't tell me what to do
I do not blame those in power, as they are funding the party we are all a part of. Sure, there is always room for improvement, but the party has just begun! I celebrate life, as there are few opportunities like it, and I refuse to let people tell me what to do.

I don't know where we're going but we're going there fast So I'm staying at the party as long as it last I say fuck this world up the ass If we're going to hell We're flying first class
We are moving towards an uncertain future, but rapidly. Despite this, I am going to continue partying as long as possible. I want to overthrow the current system to make a statement. If we are indeed going to hell, we will do so in style with no regrets.

There is love but i doubt you can see it Technically it's chemicals But i doubt you can feel it
Love exists, but it is a chemical reaction that you most likely cannot see or feel.
