I was employed in Law Enforcement for 32 years. During that time I was involved in two cases of unexplained deaths by fire. The first one was an elderly male living in a remote house who was found incinerated in his bed. The bed was un damaged apart from the area he was occupying,which was totally charred. The other one was a young housewife cremated in her kitchen. The rest of the kitchen was undamaged. Extensive enquiries failed to explain these deaths.

I remember hearing about this on an episode of a t.v. program called Unsolved Mysteries when I was around 7 or 8 years old and for my entire childhood, was terrified that this could happen to me at any moment. It would keep me up most nights. I eventually outgrew the fear but I'm so happy you're covering this topic and can't wait to watch this episode!

I had an uncle who was both an alcoholic and smoker. In the mid 80’s he passed out smoking and caught fire. He did not burn ANYTHING like these people did. He survived for about a week, probably due to machines. My mother flew out to Germany to say goodbye to him before he died. I only met him once when he came to the USA to visit us. I was so sad for my mom, the two times she flew back to Germany was to say goodbye to someone who was about to die. 😢

A lady I know told me about a co-worker who combusted in her work area as soon as he walked in. They were able to extinguish him but he died later at the hospital. It was one of the HEPA clean rooms where the air is almost 100% particle free. He was a known heavy drinker.

When I was a kid I had a book called "Mysteries of the Unexplained" I believe it was. There was a chapter on this subject and as a kid it scared the hell out of me, the whole book scared me if I remember right haha. Thanks again for a wonderful episode.

I heard about this way back 2002 on a TV show. Back then the show mentioned that it was somehow linked to depression. This channel provided much scientific and logical explanation without overeacting, rhetorical nonsense to make explanation longer, and drama, like other YT channels do to feed off from curious viewers.This was straight to the point.

One of the strange things about the Jeannie Saffin case was that her father reported that she seemed unconscious. It's almost as if the point of combustion knocked her out. Possibly she did have some sort of build-up of gases within her system, which ignited for some reason, either due to static or her father's pipe, and maybe it caused a shock wave inside of her that jolted her brain. That would explain the flash of light.

I think it could possibly be some type of Pyrophoric material. These materials will ignite when in contact with water. That's what makes the most sense to me. Maybe somehow ingesting a material and it mixing with water in your stomach causing a fire inside the abdomen? However, would it not ignite in your mouth? This is an interesting topic

I've met Larry Arnold while working on his boiler at his house. His basement was full of what I would call human anatomy information/memorabilia that would be creepy without context, so I asked him and he told me about spontaneous human combustion and gave me a copy of his book. It was an interesting thought to then be working on a piece of equipment that blows hot fire into a box for heat while thinking about the human version of that 😂 it was one of the good experiences of my career that makes up for the rude customers and dingy basements

Hey AJ. Like your channel and video subjects. Especially liked the Betz family mystery sphere story. I had never heard of that one. Could some of these spontaneous human combustions be related to another rare condition known as auto-brewery syndrome? In auto-brewery syndrome, the body actually produces alcohol in the GI tract. People get pulled over and get breath checked and it shows them as being intoxicated. Something like this combined with smoking could have bad results, no?

Years ago I was fascinated by this phenomenon, but looking into the cases made it less "spontaneous". Most recorded events happened close to open fire - and often heavy alcoholic spirits were involved. Also, the effect of upper body burning is partly understandable because it's usually covered in more clothes and contains more fat. (I only started watching the video, you might come to the same conclusion).

I found it recently and this is the only channel I have to receive a notification when a new video is coming. I agree with the pinned comment about the research and the way you present all the information and stories never loses my attention. what is crazy is i have a crime channel along with other crazy stuff.. so i study cases a TON! the cases i read where people try to set others on fire they ALWAYS say it is super HARD to set them alight.... so it really is crazy how easily the spont. human comb. cases seem to have just lit up in flames! it is like it really comes from inside them!

Also I heard a story of some military op that involved killing 7 violent Bigfoot here in NC if you want to look into that. I love stories about secret military operations that kill all these strange creatures. Oh and the Kandahar giant in Afghanistan was a cool story. Figured you could collaborate the Afghan giant and the NC Bigfoot operation into one vid since their the same types of genres. I'm from N.C. as well. Mountain gal here lol Glad I've not ran into any violent Bigfoot's/feet? I think the spray detangler and leave-in-conditioner packages I leave throughout the state parks has really helped their temperament. I tried doing something about the smell but when your pits are that hairy and you have the hormones of an ape, Secret just doesn't cut it.

One detail hard to explain is the amount of energy necessary to burn a body. As you’ve explained it, temperatura would have to be beyond extreme AND burn it slow, and that would cause damage around and most likely burn the house down as you’ve explained as well when you said it would have to be slow, and hope slow fire will ignite furniture, etc

I have read a couple cases that can't be explained. It was an old book that my grandparents had bought and it dealt with paranormal, cryptids and all other strange things that go on as well as spontaneous human combustion. some of the stories told here were also in this book. One of the cases was back in the 1970's, a father and his son were out in a small boat fishing, niether of them smoked and no alcahol was consumed. As the father cast his line he heard his son yell, the father thought he caught his hook on to his son but as he turned around he saw flames leaping out of his sons chest and arms, the father fell overboard and from the sea splashed as much water as he could into the boat and onto his son. The son died and not much remained and the case was put down as spontaneous human combustion, the other case was a lady walking down a street near a set of stairs, the sidewalk was paved as were the stairs with some potted plants for decoration, other people walking around saw her legs burst into flames and she was sprayed down with a fire reel that was close by, she died in hospital later. I need to find that book, I have it somewhere in my library and will post the name of it if I can find it.

I remember one of my friends after we played basketball while it was raining, I saw his body started to steam and produce smoke, and my other friends started to noticed it.

He wasn't caught on fire, but the smoke coming out from his steaming body was so clear and obvious. He is fat but not obese but yeah, maybe or maybe not a case of SHC.

There is another case I saw decades ago in National Geographic. He was a survivor of a spontaneous human combustion. I'm not sure was he smoking or drinking, but I doubt it, this British middle aged guy was driving in his car and his thighs lit up on fire and it according to him it was excruciating like nothing he felt before like its coming from the inside. If remember there was a passenger beside him that saw it too. I can't remember the details but he survived and his injuries were according to the hospital came from inside his thighs.

There WAS a time when I was in the 'high risk demographic' for this method of death (Other than not being overweight or elderly!) Thankfully I've gone from being well and truly alcoholic, to only having a couple of beers a few times a year. Hoping that will drastically reduce my chances of randomly bursting into flames!
