Irgendwo auf der Welt
Comedian Harmonists Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Irgendwo, irgendwie, irgendwann
Irgendwo, irgendwie, irgendwann

Overall Meaning

"Irgendwo Auf Der Welt" is a song by the Comedian Harmonists that expresses the desire for happiness and fulfillment that can be found somewhere in the world, however impossible it may seem. The lyrics speak of dreaming about this elusive place every moment of every day, and that it has been on the singer's mind for a long time. The singer cannot quite pinpoint where this place is, but they yearn to find it and experience true happiness. The verse "Wenn ich wüsst', wo das ist, ging' ich in die Welt hinein" translates to "if I knew where that was, I would go out into the world." In the chorus, the singer expresses the hope and belief that they will one day find this place and be able to experience that long-awaited happiness.

The song was released by the Comedian Harmonists in 1932 in Germany, at a time when the country was going through significant political upheaval. The group was very popular for their blend of close harmony vocals and their witty, often comedic performances. "Irgendwo Auf Der Welt" is notable for being one of their more serious songs, expressing a yearning for something more profound than just a laugh.

Today is 21/12/2020. 00:09. Today is my birthday.

I'm listening to this on loop. I feel calm. Things have been so dark recently. But... I know that there are happy and hopeful people out there. So hope exists. I will never give up hope.

Somewhere in the world, I know that there is a little piece of luck. Hell, I know that there are tons of beautiful things.
So, the stranger reading this, we might have nothing in common except the fact that we are both listening this song. But hell, I believe that this is enough. Please bear with me...

I've heard terrible words from people. Childhood included. I've seen the ugliest face of theirs, where they don't even restrain their violent urges and words. I've seen how much anger can change a human being. I've been nothing in people's eyes.

But you know what? I was never nothing. We feel like nothing just because we are not everything. But listen, stranger, we can't be everything. Everyone has their own spot. I am myself. I can't be you. You are you, you can't be me. The spots are taken. And hell, if I give up, no one can take my spot, I see. And, stranger, if you give up, no one can take yours either.

It's a hard thing, stranger, having a battle in my own head. It's a hard thing, talking to myself as if I'm talking to someone else. It's hard to have unnamed things, problems, in my own head, with me all the time. It's hard. But hell, stranger, I don't feel sad. I've accepted that. I look in the mirror and I see my scars. They have some time to heal, but I still run my fingers over them. I accept them. I accept my wounds too. It hurts, hell, but I know that this is me. No one can take that spot.

And I bet, stranger, you have your scars and wounds. Maybe not physical. Maybe physical. Maybe both. But hell, that's you. We are us, not someone else. And if you've decided to read this random comment... it means something, I believe.

Words have wings somehow. They fly away. What else flies away? Birds, stranger. Birds. Maybe my head is foggy because of sleepiness, or my words make no sense at all (blame my rebellious mind-voice for that), but stranger, birds are beautiful. And our heart has been like a bird, chirping with our happiness and curling with emotion even before our birth. Right in there, with us. I believe... hope will great our little bird-hearts one day. One day. I am sure of that. And stranger, know that I am never sure of anything on this whole earth, except this.

The ones who have seen the darkest of things, have the calmest of smiles. I can tell you that. I love this world more than anyone ever can. Maybe people make me feel like I am a bad human (maybe you have the same issue too), but then I imagine myself away. I imagine green grass, lonely mountains and blue sky. Birds too, stranger. Then I see that I am not the problem. Maybe some misunderstandings or the system is to blame, but it's okay. Somewhere in the world, and somewhere in our hearts, there is a little piece of hope.

It's 00:24 now. I've been nonstop writing.
And you know what, stranger? I will let my heart keep on beating.

No matter what.

Maybe I'm not doing the best I can, but I'm doing things at my pace. Not as fast as people want, but whatever. This song is slow too, and we like it. So what? I might be slow, but the world likes it. Birds love slow things, slow things don't scare them. See, stranger?

Wisdom from a random comment? Stranger, I am just as human as you, hiding behind some words that my mind somehow cooperated with me and wrote with me. And, think like this, this random human somehow has love for world and has the dream of finding happiness. Surely, we will. We will. You will, too. It will be worth it.

And we have hope, stranger. Hope to find hope. We did it. We have this little hope, shining inside our heart like it's shining through a little keyhole. But that will grow. Hope to find hope will grow into a hope to spread this hope. And we will become beacons.
I believe in myself, maybe for the first time in a long while. And hell, I believe in you.
We got this. Ups and downs and stuff, you know, but life goes forward, so do we. We progress. We will handle this.

Sincerely, a random human being who looks at the same sky and stars and the moon. A random human being who was born, cried, grew up, and who is living.

Fängt mein Weg zum Himmel an;
Irgendwo, irgendwie, irgendwann.

Ich hab' so Sehnsucht,
Ich träum' so oft;

Nice song. They use this song in a youtube commercial about a video game. That brought me here. This song sounds like a masterpiece hidden away from the world, but not any more
