Originally from Detroit, Michigan, the six original members were Keith Staten, Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Karl Reid, Michael Brooks, and Michael Williams. In 1991 Staten and Brooks left the group and were replaced by Marvin Sapp, Maxx Frank, and Eddie Howard, Jr.. By 1994 Howard had left the group and Williams left a year later. Hammond also left to pursue a career with the group Radical For Christ. He was replaced by Montrell Darrett. By 2000, Marcus Cole and Chris Poole had taken the place of Sapp and Darrett on the group's last studio album. In 2002 Commissioned released a reunion album which brought back most of the group's former members and featured most of its greatest hits. The group performed live on stage during the 2002 Stellar Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
(2) An urban Black gospel band with crossover appeal, Commissioned are an extremely evangelistic group in concert who put on such a dramatic show that the altars are routinely packed with repenters following their performances. Members Fred Hammond, Keith Staten, Michael Brooks and Marvin Sapp have all done many successful solo projects as well. They spent most of the '90s pursuing those careers, but found themselves back together in 2001 for a reunion tour and the first of another successful series of albums. ~ Bil Carpenter, Rovi
Ordinary Just Won't Do
Commissioned Lyrics

Who's shoulder just to cry on
To ease the agony
And find tranquility
Sweet and gentle touch
Speaks of words of love and mean so much
Ordinary just wont do
I need someone my Lord I need someone
That someone is you
A quest in order to find
What lies in my ehart in my soul in my mind
Sometimes serenity
Sometimes there's misery
So many wearknesses and faults I've got to learn to
Share the inner most and secret thoughts
The ordinary person just won't do
Lord I need, Lord I need someone
That someone is you
That someone is you
Lord I need a special touch
That will mean so very much
Close friends they don't seem to understand
Problems in your life
So complexed you say who can comprehend
Tragedy when you need relief
Only Jesus Christ can supply your need
Sweet and gentle touch
That will speak a word of love and mean so much
The ordinary just won't do
I need someone, Lord I need someone
That someone is you
That someone is you
The ordinary just wont do
I need a love that's pure and true I
Can always find it in you Jesus
The ordinary just wont do I
Gotta have a touch from you I
Can always find it in you Jesus
The lyrics of Commissioned's song Ordinary Just Won't Do are filled with a deep sense of longing for a special kind of love and understanding that can only come from Jesus Christ. The first verse begins with a simple question: Have you ever needed someone who's shoulder just to cry on? The singer then talks about the need for someone to ease their agony and find tranquility. They long for a sweet and gentle touch that speaks words of love and means so much. The singer declares that an ordinary person just won't do - they need someone special, someone who can provide the solace and comfort they crave, and that someone is Jesus.
The second verse continues the theme of searching for peace and understanding. The singer acknowledges that they have weaknesses and faults that they need to learn to share. They express a desire for a special kind of touch that will mean so much, but note that close friends don't always seem to understand the problems in their life. The singer declares that only Jesus can supply their needs, and that they need a sweet and gentle touch that will speak words of love and mean so much. The refrain repeats again and again that ordinary just won't do, and that they need someone special - Jesus.
In summary, Ordinary Just Won't Do is a song that expresses a deep need for a special kind of love and understanding that can only come from Jesus Christ. The lyrics are filled with a sense of longing for solace, comfort, and peace, and the singer declares that an ordinary person just won't do - they need someone special.

Play this song often because, it was the song my husband turned to when hurting from life challenges and just needing to be close to God. It truly, has helped me during his lost in May 2023. Ordinary was not our love. Deeply broken, yet grateful for our non ordinary love. God made our love extraordinary through him. ❤😢😢😢😢

I remember back in the 80's riding to church with my Dad and siblings listing to this. It was real gospel music that sang about scripture and things that are important like relationship. Great song.
