Design
Company Fiction Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don’t know where I am
I have to leave this place, someday
And I dress like a magician
Oh what’s your position
All night, right now
And you’re so precise
There must be a better time
Then now
I think that it’s true, every time
That you are sad
Someone is sadder, than you
I feel the same
But there’s no time to (design?)
And you are so precise
When you have the time
But what’s in your design
Oh what’s in your design
It’s time to go
But every time you leave
Well, something disappears
It always disappears
And every time you say that
You would go away
And there’s no reason to stay
Oh what’s in your design
It’s time to go
But every time you leave
Well, something disappears
It always disappears
And every time you say that
You would go away
And there’s no reason to stay
Give it to me
Give it to me
Give it to me
That would be mine
The lyrics to Company Fiction's song "Design" express feelings of uncertainty and confusion. The singer wakes up and doesn't know where they are, but they know they have to leave someday. They dress in a way that reveals their inner thoughts and emotions, wanting to appear like a magician who can create something out of nothing. The chorus reflects on the idea that everyone has their struggles, but it seems like there's never enough time to sort things out. The singer questions what's in the other person's "design," or what their plan is, and acknowledges that things always seem to disappear when they leave.
The song's message can be interpreted in a few different ways. One possible interpretation is that the two people in the song are at a point in their lives where they are feeling lost and unsure of what's ahead, but they don't want to be alone in their struggles. They try to connect with each other, but ultimately it seems like they are not able to fully understand each other's experiences or feelings. Another interpretation could be that the song is about the ephemeral nature of relationships, how people come and go in our lives and it's hard to hold onto anything permanent.
Overall, "Design" is a melancholic yet introspective song that explores themes of uncertainty, loss, and the passing of time.

Day breaks on my face
I wake up with the sun on my face
I don’t know where I am
I feel lost and disoriented
I have to leave this place, someday
I know I can't stay here forever
And I dress like a magician
I wear clothes that make me feel powerful or mysterious
Oh what’s your position
I want to know where you stand
All night, right now
I'm up all night and in the moment
And you’re so precise
You pay great attention to detail
When you have the time
When you're not busy
There must be a better time
There has to be a more suitable moment
Then now
Than the present
I think that it’s true, every time
I believe this is always the case
That you are sad
When you're feeling down
Someone is sadder, than you
Others are experiencing greater sadness
I feel the same
I empathize with your emotions
But there’s no time to (design?)
But there's no opportunity to plan or think things through
But what’s in your design
What are your intentions or motivations
It’s time to go
It's time to leave this place
But every time you leave
But every time you depart from my life
Well, something disappears
Something important is lost
It always disappears
It's a recurring pattern
And every time you say that
And every time you assert
You would go away
You're planning on leaving
And there’s no reason to stay
There's no compelling reason to remain
Give it to me
I want what you have or can offer
That would be mine
That would belong to me

It's such a great song, and while it was on the soundtrack, it wasn't in the movie! That sound track had a bunch of songs that weren't in the movie and I really don't understand.
@imcoldout
I read somewhere else that some songs might've been included in the soundtrack because they inspired the film, even if they weren't in it. That could make sense :)
@gravesbroderick928
@Itzel Cold thank you for dispelling the mystery all these years later!
