Their somewhat short-lived career (the band disbanded in 1997-8) was characterized by a unique and distinct sound on the power/progressive metal genre which was slightly altered with their last studio release, Flow.
Conception was reunited in 2005, playing the important American prog-metal festival Prog Power USA 2005 (Friday September 16) and Norwegian Scream Magazine 15 Years & 100 Issues Festival (Saturday October 1), bringing guitarist Tore Østby (Ark), singer Roy Khan (now lead singer of Kamelot) and the rest of the band back together.
Conception reunited again in 2018 and released an EP, My Dark Symphony.

Conception Lyrics

But try not to reveal uncertainty
Behind images dancing on a wall
Each tear a vision
The more you cry you'll learn
It's so easy to hide in the dark
The song you know so well
Lingers in colors you can't see
Each word a whisper
The more they say you'll find
It's so easy to hide in the dark
You won't find the treasure below the rainbows end
Black and white are strangers to the pictures of the rain
You meet another day
With hasty little lies
When someone laughs you turn away
Glad people make you feel unsafe
There's a place where all is sound
Where you know you won't be found
Where the sun and the moon never shine
And it's easy to hide in the dark
The lyrics of Conception's song Sanctuary speak to the human tendency to avoid vulnerability and hide from the truth. The opening line "Blind eyes search the sky" sets the tone for the rest of the song, as it highlights the idea of looking for answers in all the wrong places. The next line "But try not to reveal uncertainty" suggests that people may be afraid to admit that they don't know the answers to life's big questions. Instead, they create an illusion of certainty by focusing on "images dancing on a wall" and keeping their emotions hidden behind a facade.
The chorus of the song underscores this idea, as it suggests that it's easy to hide in the dark and that crying only serves to unveil vulnerability. The lines "Encourages to flee the answer to your tears/Lingers in colors you can't see/Each word a whisper" allude to the idea that the truth may be difficult to face and that it's often easier to remain in ignorance. The song also explores the notion that people may be avoiding happiness and joy, as they fear losing control and feeling exposed. The final lines of the song "Where the sun and the moon never shine/And it's easy to hide in the dark" reiterate this theme, as they suggest that some may believe that true peace and sanctuary can only be found in darkness.
