Singer / songwriter / bassist Napolitano formed the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label in 1983. When they signed with IRS in 1986, labelmate Michael Stipe suggested the name Concrete Blonde, describing the contrast between their hard rock music and introspective lyrics. They were joined by drummer Harry Rushakoff on their eponymous debut album. Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson replaced Rushakoff on Bloodletting and several tracks on Mexican Moon, while Rushakoff was in treatment for drug addiction. Rushakoff was kicked out of the band in 2002 for failing to show up for several rehearsals and shows. He was replaced by Gabriel Ramirez.
Their most popular album was 1990's Bloodletting. The band broke up in 1995, but reunited in 2001, releasing Group Therapy in 2002 and Mojave in 2004.

On a hot wind ocean
And the summer comes
And the summer goes and always has & will
And something somewhere
That you said goes ricochet
All through my head
And flashing like a neon sign
Hours of forever. coming all together
At the crossroads of a minute.
And you and me were in it
And I never saw it coming,
Never saw it fade away
Today, today, today.... days and days
And still the whining of the wheels
Sounds closest to the way I feel and
Winter comes, and winter goes,
And always has & will
Another hour, another day, another year
You pissed away
Remember walking in the rain?
I?m walking there still.
Like every heart to beat before
And every wave to kiss a shore
I?m not the first, I?m not the last...
And soon to be your past
But every mourning, when the light
Comes creeping in around my eyes
Another future falls behind
The one I had I mind
The song "Days And Days" by Concrete Blonde is a reflective and contemplative piece about the passing of time and the inevitability of change. The opening lines set the scene of a hot wind ocean and dirty leaves sailing, capturing the transience and wildness of time. The lyrics suggest that summer, winter, and every passing moment always have and always will come and go, leaving memories and emotions in their wake. The singer is haunted by a memory or comment made by someone that ricochets through their mind like a neon sign, emphasizing how certain moments and interactions can stick with us long after they've passed.
The chorus of the song is both mournful and accepting, acknowledging that time marches on and we cannot escape it. The lyrics speak of hours, days, and years that have been wasted or spent, and reflect on past experiences that have left a lasting impression. The singer remembers walking in the rain, and how that moment has stayed with them even as time continues to pass. The final lines of the song acknowledge that the singer is not the first or the last to feel this way - every heart that's beat and every wave that's kissed a shore has experienced the same transience that we all do.
Overall, "Days And Days" is a poignant observation on the passage of time and the human experience of living through it. The lyrics suggest that while time may seem overwhelming or never-ending, we can find solace in the fact that we are not alone in our experiences of it.
