Singer / songwriter / bassist Napolitano formed the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label in 1983. When they signed with IRS in 1986, labelmate Michael Stipe suggested the name Concrete Blonde, describing the contrast between their hard rock music and introspective lyrics. They were joined by drummer Harry Rushakoff on their eponymous debut album. Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson replaced Rushakoff on Bloodletting and several tracks on Mexican Moon, while Rushakoff was in treatment for drug addiction. Rushakoff was kicked out of the band in 2002 for failing to show up for several rehearsals and shows. He was replaced by Gabriel Ramirez.
Their most popular album was 1990's Bloodletting. The band broke up in 1995, but reunited in 2001, releasing Group Therapy in 2002 and Mojave in 2004.

Concrete Blonde Lyrics

Like a blanket on your shoulder
And the moon is like a mother
Looking over you forever
And the dawn is so familiar
You were meant to be together
Like a fog around a mountain, forever
Surrounding you completely
Sing you a lullaby, a lullaby to you
Lullaby, a lullaby to you
When your breathing is the wind
And your crying is the rain
Well I know you will remember
Because the music is forever
The living of a lover,
And the loving of another
Like a sister to a brother
Like a father to a mother
So softly, so sweetly
Surrounding you completely
Sing you a lullaby, a lullaby
to you
Lullaby, a lullaby to you
In Concrete Blonde's song "Lullabye," the lyrics create a feeling of comfort and security. The song describes the sensation of the moon watching over us like a nurturing mother, and the beauty of the dawn as a symbol of a predestined union. The lines "When the sky has fallen like a blanket on your shoulder" and "When your breathing is the wind and your crying is the rain" set the backdrop for this soothing melody that is meant to create a sense of peacefulness and security, much like a lullaby. The lyrics suggest that the love we have for others is powerful and never fades, just like the music of a lullaby.
The lyrics of "Lullabye" are ultimately about the power of love to heal and comfort. The line "The living of a lover, and the loving of another" reminds us that love is a living, breathing force that is essential to our well-being. The song also emphasizes the importance of family and the support they provide. The lines, "Like a sister to a brother, like a father to a mother," suggest that family bonds can be just as nurturing as the bond between a mother and child. Overall, as the title suggests, "Lullabye" is a song meant to calm and soothe the listener, to provide a sense of love and security that will endure forever.
