Easy Come Easy Go
Connie Smith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a cold wind
Blowing round your heart
There's a cool, cool breeze
Well you chilled me from the start

I used to pretend the fire inside
Would begin to burn
But oh no, it wasn't to be darling
I had a lot to learn

I believe the only thing to do
Is turn it around
And listen to the voice inside
That's never gonna let me down

Easy come and easy go
Well that's the way that it is
Easy come and easy go
I won't make no promises

There's a dull kind of ache
Where caring used to be
And I think my heart may break
Oh darling can't you see

It's time to put it all aside
And make a fresh start
The first cut is the deepest darling
That is the hardest part

I believe the only thing to do
Is turn it around
And listen to the voice inside
That's never let me down

Easy come and easy go
That's the way that it is
Easy come and easy go
I won't make no promises

Easy come and easy go
That's the way that it is

Easy come and easy go
I won't make no promises

Overall Meaning

In Connie Smith's song "Easy Come Easy Go," the singer reflects on a failed relationship that has left her feeling cold and distant. As she confronts the reality of her heartache, she recognizes that the only thing she can do is let go of the promises and expectations she had for the relationship and start anew. The lyrics reflect the singer's struggle to reconcile her past with her future, acknowledging the pain and heartache that comes with letting go of someone she cared for deeply.

At the beginning of the song, the singer describes the overpowering feeling of emotional distance that has overrun her heart. She recognizes that her partner's coldness and indifference are responsible for her fractured emotions, and admits that she had hoped to rekindle the passion that once existed between them. However, she realizes that the flames of the relationship are no longer capable of igniting, and she must listen to the voice inside her that tells her it's time to move on.

The chorus of "Easy Come Easy Go," acts as a reminder that life is unpredictable and change is inevitable. Relationships, like all things in life, may come and go without warning. The singer recognizes that in life the only thing that's certain is that nothing is ever certain. Therefore she refuses to make any more promises about what the future may hold and accepts that she must be prepared for whatever comes her way.

Love Connie Smith. Hadn't heard of this one, howver. Nice, brief snippet of Lloyd Green early on; after that, nothing but overproduced string orchestration. Disappointing.

Silas Hamilton Steel Guitar

@Estufarian Your right. Weldon played on every Connie record until 1976. Exception of Dicky Overbey on a few in the early 70’s. Lloyd played on 3 of her songs, and they were slow. The 16th notes fast blocked is actually a signature Weldon thing lol.
