After the group disbanded in 1998, Consequence was forced to search for a label on his own when his mixtape Take 'Em To The Cleaners founds its way into the hands of Kanye West, who offered him a guest spot on his debut album The College Dropout on the track Spaceship. He then featured on the song "Gone" off West's second album Late Registration, as well as songs from Common, Beyonce and label mates Really Doe and GLC.

The best scene in the entire show. I loved how David realized what was gonna happen and he knew he was gonna turn but he held it in long enough to let himself cry. Such an amazing choice to make for the character. Probably the one time where the transformation was triggered by sadness and not anger. Bill Bixby was truly INCREDIBLE.

This was TV everyone tuned in for, and it was glorious. Sure, by today's standards it would seem corny but back in the 80s it was perfection. You actually felt Dr Banner's emotional journey (through Bill Bixby's excellent acting) as he wrestled with the "monster within" - we haven't seen that kind of emotive experience since (with perhaps Ed Norton's iteration) - we get loads of "Hulk" but very little of the man with whom he resides within - miss those TV days (as all people who get old do hahaha!)

I remember being a little kid and having to wait a whole week for part II. That bad Hulk was frightening. I would look on the TV Guide to make sure I wouldn't miss it. Great times!! Best of all of the sci-fi super hero programs from back then. Bill Bixby was the greatest actor very underrated.

This was actually, IMO, the best Hulk-Out in the entire series - one of the few that is triggered by adrenaline, not just pain. When Banner realizes that he has lost his last chance for a cure, we see the eyes, and a full 2 minutes passed before he fully transforms. We see the horror in Banner, the tears in his eyes -- Banner knows he has lost, and it may be Bill Bixby's finest acting in the series.

Then, the Hulk fully manifests, and he is not angry because Banner wasn't. For the first time, Hulk sees someone who looks just like him. Hulk can only stare at this new creature, not truly understanding what he sees. And then the other creature starts whaling on Hulk - for no reason, as far as Hulk is concerned. It takes several minutes for Hulk to really get angry and start defending himself. Hulk even has tears in HIS eyes. That's well done.

But when you see the two of them together, you see Lou's so well developed body, and Dick Durock as Frye's creature just has his size working for him in this scene. He's not as muscular as Lou, and it shows. Good fight scene, but we know Lou would have kicked his ass.

@James Kingman True indeed, but it was easier to write the metamorphosis coming from pain because you get the very dramatic process leading to it (that is, David being beaten to a pulp by the week's bad guys).

It's not so easy to depict a pure adrenaline transformation because any dramatic process is strictly internal. "The First" is the obvious one, but they also succeeded with "747," the first season episode where David has to land the plane. Regardless of the means, Bill Bixby could pull it off, and he did it well.

This was a great episode. Very memorable as a kid and even better as an adult. The scene where the vial is smashed and Banner thus loses his one chance for being cured is dramatic and painful to watch.
The older creature was quite scary as a kid and actually looked similar to a giant bad guy that appeared in one ep of Battle of the Planets once outer mummy shell had been destroyed.

Glad someone posted this epic scene again! Best episode by far of the series with Prometheus also a fave of mine. Yes, Bill's acting is just incredible the moment he starts yelling NOOOO! Elizabeth's facial expressions as David starts to turn are spot on. I remember seeing this as a kid and having to wait a week for part 2 to see the two hulks fight. Such great writing.

I remember that episode. Banner got thrown down the stairs in his wheelchair, becomes the Hulk and is able to limp up the stairs but still falls down. It was actually more realistic which was one of the things that made the show great.

@Don't Care Yes, the Hulk wasn’t bullet proof in the show, but he had a average healing factor, he healed quicker as the Hulk but he would tend to heal more during a transformation, so usually if he was shot he’d be partially healed later.

For example Banner was hit by a car in one episode and became a paraplegic. After he transformed into the Hulk he had minor use of his legs but still couldn’t walk, after reverting to Banner a lot of the damage had been undone but he didn’t fully recover until one more transformation into the Hulk. If you can do enough damage and overwhelm his healing then yes the Hulk would be able to die. I’d argue this version of the Hulk is about as strong as Spider-Man.

I loved this show. I remember seeing this episode when it first aired and being scared when the first scene came on when those people were exploring and the evil Hulk was behind that curtain. Later, when we actually saw him, my dad burst out laughing at how scrawny he was compared to Lou Ferrigno, and then I started laughing too. We were both asking ourselves how hard it would have been to get another bodybuilder to play the part and sell it. I know what they were trying to do, but it just didn't work. Now, when I saw Andre the Giant as the first Bigfoot fight Steve Austin, THAT scared the crap out of me. Andre was enormous and looked freaky as hell.

As others on here have pointed out he was the first and was really a pure monster who looked more frightening really and although was puny looking still had incredible strength so yeah i got the thinking and at the time as i was only about 4 or 5 he did look very frightening but at the same time i thought especially growing up that guy is nothing like the Hulk as doesn't have the physique and muscles of him so it didn't work with that but in a way the acting kind of pulled it through and they couldn't have the same kind of Hulk as it wouldn't work he had to look very different but they went too extreme by having a really tall thin spindly man although at the time the fight scenes were sort of passable but looking at them now especially the scene with the much bigger and physically built Lou Ferrigno it doesn't look right at all but i love the show so i can still look past it 👍🏻

He knew that the power and strength of the creature was a tempting thing for Fry. He had to cure him or stop him because Fry was insane. He actually purposely brought out the change while David tried preventing it

@knightrcer About what I said some months ago, I meant every word of it, since I know how that poor man felt when he lost someone he enamored so much, just like I did eleven years ago today when I lost my mom because of a sudden heart attack. AND I did everything in my power to save her even if I had to call 911 for the paramedics to come over and try to save her. Like I said some months ago, I also know what it's like to lose someone I love, and that was my mom. And believe me I really wept alongside of that poor man Bill Bixby every time I see this touching scene. This is STILL the most powerful episode of "the Incredible Hulk" I ever saw, and it still is. Wow!!! Thank you for posting this. I forgot all about this episode! I think I repressed it from my childhood memory cause this scene scared the living hell out of me when I first saw it back in 1986. I watched through cuffed hands over each eye blocking out my peripheral vision leaving a small tunnel vision of just the TV screen. This and the Prometheus two part series were two of my favorite episodes. The Prometheus meteor radiation had caused him to not fully change back to Banner. He had both half Banner and Hulk mind-frames.

Muy buena escena, aunque no solo la tristeza de que el hulk malo le lanzó la inyección que lo curaría a David también hubo enojo al verla pérdida, que el resultado final es que hulk le hubiera puesto una madrina total al viejo hulk si así no pudo, menos con toda la furia, creo que esta escena solo le falto más pelea concluyendo con el tiroteo, aunque hubiera sido hulk quién lo hubiera matado al malo.

@Jerry Lewis No he was supposed to be the very 1st creature ever created before our hulk. It was more like a creature created as gamma radiation harnessed from the sun rays. The allure to David was that if someone had created such a creature and cured him that he might be able to repeat the process on himself.

I love the overactive when he gets hit or thrown before turning into Hulk. You can step on his toe and the pain face is as if you chopped off Banner's foot

There was another episode where David thought the Hulk had killed someone and he starts to cry. I didn’t appreciate how honest and genuine his grief was until I had enough life experience to know that type of pain and the emotional response. Later, I read about how his son had died tragically and his marriage subsequently fell apart. I’m convinced he relived this pain when he wanted to “act” in these scenes.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. The acting by Bill Bixby in here was very good, and having Dick Durock being the evil Hulk was a nice cherry on top since I remember him as another green monster in Swamp Thing.

In this scene I wanted David's hulk to be irate. Like he was in the intro (graveyard). THAT was the hulk I wanted him to be in this episode. But lous hulk just shrugging off the ugly hulk is just funny.

I love this episode even though I think they could've done somewhat of a better job. This show was at its best when it approached each episode in a serious way.

I do wish that someone could/would go into this scene and fix the mistake they made with Banner's eyes. They shouldn't have turned green until the music comes on for when the Hulk appears.

I can't say I remember this episode?? As a kid growing up in the 70s, it all ways got to me at the end of each episode. David Banner thumb out, hitchhiking and playing that real pretty but sad music.... I truly felt bad for him.

I feel that these 2 episodes combined would have made a great movie instead of episodes. But I would also settle for them being the last episodes of season. Not saying I enjoyed less just because it was in the middle of season. Just saying the First part 2 would have made a great season finale.

For those saying Hulk 1.0 should have been more muscular----similar to how the transformed individual retains the personality traits of the regular person, i.e., Banner's goodness vs. Frye's lifelong rage and frustration----it makes sense that this would include their physical forms. Banner's is a normal-sized guy, but Frye was a shorter, smaller, and much older man. Thus, this smaller stature and less muscle mass with advanced age would seem to be the recipe for a less-muscular Hulk.

@Frank: but in part 1 of "The First", David was in the library researching and saw the old article on Dell Frye's Hulk. There was a photo taken of Dell Frye's Hulk in the newspaper. Dell Frye's Hulk looked the same thirty years before as it did in the early 80's?

Imagine being stuck with something you think is a curse, even if it makes you a hero to others. Then your about to give it to someone else who has the same condition, only for them to fight it so much AND then destroy the cure in the process. This was probably one of the most rage induced transformations of the whole show.

Also we get to see Buff Hulk vs Hobo Hulk.

Oh boy. I was a huge incredible hulk fan as a kid, yet I'm just watching this episode for the first time.
My biggest regret is realizing that i really missed a chance to talk about this scene to my friends back in nursery school.

This is the best project Marvel ever made. Close are the Netflix shows . Better than any film. Just a magnificent show, so deep, profound and so much substance. No CGI and shallow plots. Absolute masterpiece. Adore Bill and Lou what a 1/2 punch 🥊

@Fox Sky look, to be completely honest 💯. I have seen every marvel movie but after the last bad spider man (never saw 10 rings ) I quit marvel, that can change but it’s gone down hill , never saw ridiculous Morbius or the last Thor . 👎 eternals was terrible , don’t care for doctor strange

You writing no cgi as that is something bad. Thx to CGi we can have better visual experience with superhero movies and movies like Lord of the Rings. They did a great job for a 70's show, but most superhero shows of that type from that era look ridiculous now I can't take this seriously anymore

As a kid in the 1990s this series was one of my favorites Lou and Bill were my heroes, and at the time I weigh like 40 pounds but in my head I was as big as Lou. It was so exciting when Bill's eyes change and then the real Hulk appeared no CGI just pure real muscle I love this series till this day. I have to say bad Hulk looks pretty silly now his face Jesus Christ and he is so skinny they should’ve made him a little bulkier Lou could’ve snap him in half 😂😂😂

@Νίκος Παναγόπουλος Hulk Hogan (ironic name) would have made a good Abomination with the right makeup job. In his prime Ferrigno was six foot five and weighed around 285 according to Wikipedia but Hulk Hogan was six foot eight and weighed around 320 so he was actually bigger than Ferrigno. I STILL think Ferrigno was stronger and would have won a weight lifting contest but on screen it would have looked pretty neat.

"The First" (Pts 1 & 2, aired, CBS, March 6, 1981, and March 13, 1981), directed by Frank Orsatti, for CBS's "THE INCREDIBLE HULK", was arguably one of the show's finest episodes of the 1978-82 TV series. David Banner discovers that he isn't the only "Hulk" when he pursues the notes from a deceased scientist who experimented with Gamma radiation, and the discovery is hidden by the character played by guest star Harry Townes, who reveals that he is the one who transforms into the other Hulk, or "Frye's Hulk, played by stuntman and "SWAMP THING" actor, Dick Durock. The two-parter was an amazing personal drama, especially after the four years of David Banner being on the run while dealing with his Green alter-ego, as he is almost close to discovering the cure to his situation. before realizing the great obstacle in dealing with Frye, who has unsuccessfully vied for the affection of the widow, played by guest star Lola Albright. Again, an amazing dramatic episode of the TV series that was created for Television by Kenneth Johnson, and based on the Marvel character!
