2. Constance are also a Glasgow-based post-hardcore metal band.
" “I felt like I was being attacked by the band.”
Intellectual psychopaths, charitable degenerates, humble monsters.
Constance are a young, violent, and hungry metal band from Glasgow, Scotland.
Their music takes influence from punk, metal, hardcore, trance, and ambient, leaving venues trembling and audiences bleeding.
“If you climb that, I'm shutting the whole gig down.”
Constance play like every gig is their first and last, breaking hearts, minds, and bones. They don't have fans so much as their victims have Stockholm syndrome.
You might not like us, but come to a show and you will fucking remember us."
3. Constance was a Brisbane, Australia-based band that blended metal and rock sounds. Originally started in 2004 after the demise of former indie/rock project Where You Live, Dale J. Williams (vocals) and Sam Alcock (guitar) started work on a studio project with more metal influence than their previous bands, and Constance was born. Later on that year, this studio project became a full-fledged band with the addition of Rob Schlegel (bass) and Kristofer Maher (drums) - this version of the band played numerous shows across the Brisbane area before going on hiatus in November of 2005. They returned as a five-piece band in mid-2006, with Dale dropping his guitar duties, Rob switching from bass to guitar, and with the integration of a new rhythm section consisting of Leo Campbell (bass) and James Geekie (Drums) after the departure of Maher earlier in the year. This incarnation of the band never played any shows and it was around this time that Constance disbanded due to Williams' departure.
Former members of Constance are now active in these bands:
Dale: Vyrion
Sam: Defamer
Geeks: Defamer, Shellfin
Leo & Rob: A German Spectacle
Constance's songs usually range from six to ten minutes in length and are heavily influenced by artists such as Killswitch Engage, Opeth, Arch Enemy, The Juliana Theory and Foo Fighters.

If i slowly resign will you gently hold out your hand
Will you stand up again from the life, that i’ve led
When i’ll laydown my arms, and give up what is left
Will you still be around on the day i will fall
Will you still be around…
If i move up and name, all the words, that i’ve said
If i confess, deep down, these lines are just like my prayers
Never hope again, at least, i guess
Will you still be around on the day i will fall
Will you still be around…
In the walls that i raise
In the shade of my light
At the end of the play
When we reach the final act
Will your stand up again from the life that i’ve led
When i’ll laydown my arms, and give up what is left
Will you still be around on the day i will fall
Will you still be around…
The lyrics to Constance's song "Defeat" describe the fear of failure and the hope that someone will be there to support and lift the artist up when they fall. The first verse implies a potential fall, whether it be failure or surrender, and questions if the person they are addressing would be quick to forget them if they no longer have something to offer. The artist wants to know if this person will continue to be a source of support if they are no longer of value to them.
The second verse goes on to describe how the artist has tried their best and made promises, yet still feels as though they are going to fall. Constance explores what would happen if she were to confess that her words and actions are no better than her prayers, "deep down," implying that she has not been genuine in her efforts.
Throughout the song, Constance sings about the walls she has built for herself and the time when the "final act" has come. She asks if this person will stand up again and continue to be there for her when she has "laid down her arms" and "given up what is left." The repetition of "will you still be around" highlights the vulnerability and need of the artist and creates a hauntingly beautiful tone to the song.
Overall, "Defeat" is a deeply emotional and introspective song that addresses the fear of failure and the need for support from loved ones during difficult times. The lyrics convey the artist's vulnerability and raw emotions, leading listeners on a journey of introspection and self-reflection.
