" “I felt like I was being attacked by the band.”
Intellectual psychopaths, charitable degenerates, humble monsters.
Constance are a young, violent, and hungry metal band from Glasgow, Scotland.
Their music takes influence from punk, metal, hardcore, trance, and ambient, leaving venues trembling and audiences bleeding.
“If you climb that, I'm shutting the whole gig down.”
Constance play like every gig is their first and last, breaking hearts, minds, and bones. They don't have fans so much as their victims have Stockholm syndrome.
You might not like us, but come to a show and you will fucking remember us."
3. Constance was a Brisbane, Australia-based band that blended metal and rock sounds. Originally started in 2004 after the demise of former indie/rock project Where You Live, Dale J. Williams (vocals) and Sam Alcock (guitar) started work on a studio project with more metal influence than their previous bands, and Constance was born. Later on that year, this studio project became a full-fledged band with the addition of Rob Schlegel (bass) and Kristofer Maher (drums) - this version of the band played numerous shows across the Brisbane area before going on hiatus in November of 2005. They returned as a five-piece band in mid-2006, with Dale dropping his guitar duties, Rob switching from bass to guitar, and with the integration of a new rhythm section consisting of Leo Campbell (bass) and James Geekie (Drums) after the departure of Maher earlier in the year. This incarnation of the band never played any shows and it was around this time that Constance disbanded due to Williams' departure.
Former members of Constance are now active in these bands:
Dale: Vyrion
Sam: Defamer
Geeks: Defamer, Shellfin
Leo & Rob: A German Spectacle
Constance's songs usually range from six to ten minutes in length and are heavily influenced by artists such as Killswitch Engage, Opeth, Arch Enemy, The Juliana Theory and Foo Fighters.

No oh no je ne t’aime pas, better off by yourself
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, just a lie, then i guess
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, you are fooled
Take my hand
And that’s just the way it is, nothing much to believe
It all comes to an end, the desires and the dreams
Empty spaces wait in line and in between
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, just my hand on your hips
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, not a move not a twist
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, i’m just acting like a fool
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, i might leave in a while
And that’s just the way it is, nothing much to believe
It all comes to an end, the desires and the dreams
Yeah that’s just the way it is, nothing more nothing else
Empty spaces wait in line and in between
I fall
And that’s just the way it is, nothing more nothing else
It all comes to an end, the desires and the dreams
Yeah that’s just the way it is, walk away and believe
It will all start again, it will all…
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, just a twinkle in my eye
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, i might fall…in your heart
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, i don’t know but i guess
No oh no je ne t’aime pas, a little more
Take my hand
In Constance's song Tender Fools, the lyrics revolve around the theme of fleeting relationships and the inevitability of their end. The French phrases "No oh no je ne t'aime pas" translate to "No oh no, I don't love you" and serve as a recurring refrain throughout the song. The singer is honest with their partner, indicating that the relationship is temporary and there is no genuine feeling of love. The references to physical touch, such as "just a kiss on your neck" and "my hand on your hips," convey a sense of intimacy but also highlight the superficiality of the connection.
The chorus emphasizes the transience of human desire and dreams, stating "It all comes to an end, the desires and the dreams." The singer recognizes the emptiness of these fleeting relationships and the moments in between them. The final stanza leaves the possibility of a future encounter with the lines "No oh no je ne t'aime pas, I might fall...in your heart" and "It will all start again, it will all...". This suggests that despite the recognition of the impermanence of relationships, the singer is open to the idea of another fling.
