Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.

And the infinite end.
I never got to say,
I never had the chance to listen.
I missed this train.
Buried but breathing,
This evening sleeps.
Buried but breathing,
The lyrics in Converge's "Buried but Breathing" present a theme of regret over not being able to express one's feelings towards someone before their death. The line "For the dyin' beautiful, and the infinite end" sets the tone for the song, implying that the singer is reflecting on a past relationship or encounter. The repetition of "buried but breathing" emphasizes the feeling of being trapped, perhaps in a situation where one is unable to move forward or express themselves. The line "I missed this train" suggests that the singer feels like they had a chance to convey their feelings, but failed to do so in time.
The final line of the song, "These devil's weep," adds an interesting layer to the theme. It may suggest that the singer is struggling with their own inner demons or regrets, adding to their inability to convey their feelings towards the person who has passed away.
Overall, "Buried but Breathing" presents complex emotions through simple and impactful lyrics, highlighting the importance of expressing oneself before it's too late.

I missed this train.
I missed my chance
Buried but breathing,
Hidden away but still alive
This evening sleeps.

Buried but breathing,
Hidden away but still alive
