Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.

Pounding hard with battered wings of destiny
You were my last great war
You were my heaven ablaze
Riddled with faults and fractures
And I spent my last of days burning my oldest of bridges
And I spent my last of nights killing the best of friends
In the company of thieves, liars, beggers and whores
The opening line of Converge's song Fault and Fracture conveys the idea that despite being damaged and traumatized, a person can still be beautiful. The singer is speaking to a person who was at their best when they were dealing with adversity (“the damage and the trauma”) and forging ahead with a sense of determination (“pounding hard with battered wings of destiny”). In referring to this person as “my last great war,” the singer is suggesting that this person was the ultimate challenge for them, the one that proved the most daunting and difficult to overcome.
The singer then talks about how the relationship between them and the person they are addressing was marked by “faults and fractures,” which suggests that there were problems, issues, and arguments that accompanied their bond. The singer then describes how they have cut ties with others, burning bridges with people who may have been close to them in the past. In describing them as “the best of friends,” the singer is perhaps suggesting that they had to let go of people they cared deeply for in order to make a clean break with their past. Finally, the singer alludes to spending time with people who are less than reputable (“thieves, liars, beggars, and whores”) and expresses a desire to wait for their time to come.

I don't know what's better: the bangin no-nonsense intro, the speaker noise blast at 1:23 (I wish I knew what I was talking about), or the groove riffs on the 2nd half in general, or the explosive breakdown at the end
EDIT: apparently it's amp feedback. I adore the amp feedback at 1:23
